MDO: Sure, a tough deterrent such as the confescation of your bike may work, but you need the limit there in the first pace. Currently there's the understanding that they can go as fast as they like up there.

how would a few coppers enforce the whole of that section,

that covers what 300-700meters of the circut, what about the rest

That's not how it works gazza. You don't post coppers all along strand street to make sure someone doesn't rob something. If the punishment is harsh enough, a few random police on the mountain on bikes or with speed guns will do the job.

thing is slim i dont think it would, yes it would hit a few of them, but most bikers come in packs,

it would not be hard to send a loan rider out ahead of the group, bike to bike radios are cheap these days, and report where thay are doing the speed guns,

blast on the parts no coppers and slow down to go past the speed traps,

what would happin is you would then get a lot of bikes in one group as others would group in with them, so in fact you have prob got a more dangours problem with say 10-20 bikes going for it on the same bit of road.

average sped cameras (as used extensively on UK motorways) - fine you can do 120mph but the enforced slowing to 20mph to bring average down to say 50mph removes most fun.

The answer to that....

Hidden cameras. As in the UK people will happily speed, spot a bright yellow camera box or traffic cop, slow down until they are past and then return to speeding until the next camera/copper.

If there are cameras hidden along the mountain and their postions moved every so often to stop people knowing where they are so as to not return to the status quo, people would be forced to play by the rules. Failure to comply = crushed vehicle.

While a speed limit on the mountain may have an effect as has been pointed out there are ways to get around it and we know what happens to fixed speed cameras if they are put up on the island. ;)

What I think we need is to make the visiting riders and locals feel uncomfortable riding so they wont go as fast ANYWHERE on the island.

Like when we travel to the Continent and have to concentrate really hard because we are having to drive on the "Wrong Side of the Road" do that here for the TT period ie.

Introduce driving on the RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD for the duration of the festival. :D:blink:
