spermann
We need to ban Mount Everest. It is so dangerous!! http://www.rock-clim...everest-deaths/ WTF does that have to do with the IOM government allowing TT to happen though. We have no control over who does what on Everest. We can contol who risks their life at an event endorsed by our government here. You really have chose the wrong Island to live on if you dont like the TT/MGP. Why dont you go on holiday. There should be some cheap deals out there...

Keith
Roy Hanks, being interviewed by Charlie Williams just said "it would have happened whoever was first to arrive [at Ballacrye]". While not a reference to oil or anything else specific, it does appear to suggest that 'something' happened that goes beyond driver/passenger error. I would suggest that the headline on the story that is linked to above is appalling. "Could Sidecar Deaths Have Been Avoided?" Firstly, the marshals there will be suffering enough (and questioning themselves) without such an insensitive comment. Even if oil was the cause, it had clearly only just been dropped there by another competitor. Even if the marshals had spotted a couple of cars get out of shape they still have to get flags out at Ballaugh and have confirmation that they are out and the side cars had all seen them. IF an earlier sidecar had dropped oil, I would expect that between six & ten sidecars would hit it before there is a chance to respond adequately. I've photographed at Ballacrye and they have a good, professional group of experienced marshals out there. I have no doubt that if they'd seen anything untoward, they would have been attempting to deal with it correctly. To suggest otherwise without evidence is dreadful. The age comment earlier... When John Goodwin crashed and died, some people immediately referred to his age, despite the fact that he'd won the previous MGP race. When the facts came out, it turned out that the bike in front of him had dropped oil on the racing line. He had the bad luck of being the next person around the corner. An eighteen year old would have hit it just the same. If they are fit enough then I'm glad to see people of any age bringing their experience to the TT & Manx. Sad news. Lonan3
Sleeping in Tents? Thats been going on for decades and adds to the TT experience. Think you find most people camping is their first choice. Not appropriate to argue too much about - but some of us are old enough to recall when only a tiny number of visitors chose camping. Those, of course, were the days when most of Douglas consisted of boarding houses. It was also a time when, whatever the tourist board (or whatever they're called nowadays) claim, the number coming to see the races was far in excess of anything that's been seen in recent times - including the centenary. As for the incident, it is tragic and this thread should confine itself to paying respects to those who lost their lives. All the other arguments should be separated from the tragedy. I caught this interview. Did I hear Roy Hanks correctly when he said Bill Currie had lost sight in one eye?
ManxTaxPayer
People are saying there was oil on the road That is the most shit by far Manx news website I have ever had the misfortune to look at. Quite an achievement really when one considers the competition. And why is it so slow? I always suspect malware attacks from such shit sites. thommo2010
Guys here's the secret the government don't tell you. They don't put guns to people's heads and make them compete. The riders know the risks and know the possibility they could die. As long as people still want to compete there will be a TT and rightly so. It is a great event and brings the Island to life for a couple of weeks.
Keith
I caught this interview. Did I hear Roy Hanks correctly when he said Bill Currie had lost sight in one eye? Yes, as a result of an industrial accident. I didn't catch all of it, I'm not sure if the rules changed and it happened to benefit him or if the rules were re-examined because of the affect on him? Amadeus
People are saying there was oil on the road I've told you before to stop link-spamming your crappy site. The article is speculative and does no good to anyone. It's nothing short of irresponsible to feed the rumour mill like this. Screenshot taken just in case you decide to pull an article again.
