is there somewhere else in the South that you can buy good quality fresh fish?

Thanks Snaipyr. I'll get my glasses out. But what I will miss is a shop that specialises in fresh fish. I like the idea of going to a butcher's for meat, not buying it at the supermarket, and the same for fish. Despite being an Island with a long history of fishing we seem to be losing the fishmongers from our streets. Is it because people don't eat so much fish these days?

blame the UK fishing agreement + overfishing in Irish sea - no fishing industry left other than scallops (and that at mercy of rogue Scottish boats) - all 'fresh' fish other than small amounts of side catches comes via Fleetwood - Tesco's have mopped up most of the 'fresh' fish market though there is Devereaux in Douglas + Moore in Ramsey - M&S with their prepacked the rest though here the real profit is on the prepared fish (try working out just how much those breadcrumbs on breaded fish are costing)

As Frances says 'fresh' fish, if you take the time to read the labels at Paddys in Shoprite very little is locally caught. Most fish caught at sea is frozen straight away anyway so the use of the word fresh should be taken in context. If you want fresh fresh I guess you either catch it yourself or get down to the harbour when one of the few local boats are coming in.
