Deano_iom
The lack of wheat anf gluten free foods in the iom is disgusting!! It makes going out anywhere for the day a pain in the ass if you get hungry out and about as you cant pop into the shop and get a sandwich!! There are no restaurants that i have found that do specialist gluten free options, dont get me started on the lack of food products available in shopshite and tesco!! GD4ELI
Tesco's have gluten free recipes on their website. http://www.tesco.com/recipes/browse.aspx?N=4294967276 Apart from that I do agree with you, but can't you make do with what's on offer? M and S have gluten free food (also provided in their cafe). Greens in St Johns is good also. Don't feel so sorry for yourself, it's not the worst illness in the world! sirstabby
I have no problems with gluten but as a matter of course prefer gluten free sausages as ceteris paribus they are more meaty. Take a look at Paul Rankin's sausages, they're avaliable in both Tesco and Shoprite. Edited March 25, 2012 by sirstabby

First I do understand it must be annoying, but seriously, how many people on the Island do you think would buy the stuff if a restaurant, Cafe, or shop went to the effort of buying it in, shipping it here, stocking it, and making meals out of it? These places are open to make money, if the costs associated with offering something re greater than the returns available then they won't bother, and why should they? If they can get a better return selling something else then they will.
Moomar65
Deano_iom, Carine's coffee shop in Peel offers gluten free bread, the soup is always gluten free and have gluten free cakes. It's my Mother in Laws coffee shop on Douglas street, opposite the Post Office if you're ever in Peel.

Most lunch places tend to do omelettes which is a good GF option. As for specialist stuff, a few of the places down south have their menus labeled with which bits are gluten free, but I agree it's nowhere near enough places. Station in Port Erin is pretty good though, and Bohemian. The station stack is about enough to feed someone for an entire day, and is gluten free. Pierrot Lunaire
1 in roughly 3 people can't process gluten properly (whether it affects them badly or not). That's funny. 1 in roughly 3 people are aggressive drivers who feel roads owe them an uninhibited environment bordering on exclusivity. Is it safe to assume a correlation, or is this purely coincidental?

Snowflake
It's better than it was! 9 years ago you couldn't get anything in Tesco. 35 years ago, it was prescription only in the UK.
