Why does resurfacing the prom need planning approval? OK they may be moving the tram tracks and altering kerb lines but I still dont see why it needs Planning permission.

More generally I think the island suffers from too much planning permission requirements, it adds cost and time to private enterprise.

In these straitened times anybody or any company wishing to do business should be encouraged, not held back with paperwork.

Even this work on the prom, that maybe undertaken by the departments own labour is a stimulus. Local firms will benefit from material sales but it would be better as Albert says if it was tendered for local civil engineering company's.

If, as it seems, it is not tendered out, then it at least will keep the DoI workforce busy and prevent lay offs.

This is going to be a nightmare.

The DOI are not equipped to build something of this size with their troglodites and this should have gone out to tender which would include tenders from across. Who in the right mind thought they could achieve this? Let them stick to minor roads, fixing repairs and other lesser important tasks, as they haven't got enough trogpower to do both.

9 years? absolutely pathetic and 3 years IMO, would be pushing it.
