Or ring your MHK and any MLCs and ask if they are one of the political pension parasites? These people disgust me.

And as far as compulsory private pensions go, no fucking way. It's just another scam for the City to fleece money off the working person. The returns will be pitiful. The fees will be generous. And th

It's for the best - none of you are lookers.

Only Eddie Lowey could come out with this one! The pin-up boy of the Manx Labour Party and supposed socialist - has finally disappeared up his own arse.

http://www.manxradio.com/oNews/uploaded/audio/pension-lowey2.wma

from Manx Radio news item about Tynwald Pensions

....I've always been a believer in doing what Tynwald wants to do, so you can make what you like out of that

It really is time the Legislative Council was simply abolished.

A needless, useless, unnecessary, expensive Teflon coated concourse of anachronism. Now epitomised.

The baronial system of governance has gone from the island or at least should be going, this silly old fool is a drain the taxpayers can do without ! Bell needs to get real or get out ! If he can't see that the current system is an embarrassment then he needs to get out too !!!

But there is no way that Bell or anyone else in Tynwald is going to broach the idea of root and branch reform - the most likley move, if any, would be some minor tinkering such as making the LegCo a 'democratically' elected chamber.

No chance whatsoever IMO of them saying what form of democracy suits a micro-state in the 21st century.

Even the UK now has a system of raising issues by online petitions http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_066327

If I've worked out the maths correctly the IOM per capita equivalent of 100,000 signatures is 140!

The trouble is,is there legislation here the same as the UK where,if we got 140 signatures we could get rid of them.

I think when they get 100K it has to be debated in the House of Commons, just imagine it being debated here, after say a prolonged 2 day debate it get's thrown out as would be the case, just look at the archaic Tynwald Day Petitions, most never see the light of day.

I think it would take more than 140 signatures to shift that lot,it would be like trying to pull a guila moster from it's prey.

Eddie categorically proving what most of us have known all along - that he's a silly old c**t who should have been pensioned off years ago (excuse the pun).

Well the only thing you can say in his favour is (as Declan pointed out) at the moment he gets, by my calculation, £63,147.89 a year[1]. If he retired we'd have to pay all that to his successor(s) plus a pension of about £42,550 pa to him.

[1] Basic £37.822 pa plus 50% upgrade (40% as a member of the Treasury plus 10% as Chairman of the MEA) plus £6,414.89 'expenses'.

Peter Karran doesn't come across as very principled either, considering he's only making the minimum 3% contribution when others have volunteered to pay 5%.

Hardly portrays the actions of a credible peoples man.

Why are we starting a second thread on members pensions,it only dilutes the content of the previous one below

http://www.manxforum...ension-schemes/

Because Manx1Bloke was in one of his let's-start-lots-of-threads moods and it's a bit late to stop now. But yes, MF could be improved a bit by more searching and less starting.

Peter Karran doesn't come across as very principled either, considering he's only making the minimum 3% contribution when others have volunteered to pay 5%.

Well he did move an amendment when the Scheme was introduced to replace the 5% by 10%, though there was an option that current members would only have to pay 5% (from April 2012) till the end of their current period in office. The only people who supported the 10% were Karran, Hall Beecroft, Teare and Cretney plus Butt in LegCo.

So it may be he isn't putting his money where his mouth is. I think Beecroft and Teare have both said they are paying 5% from April rather than the staggered scheme from 3%, that started then, but it could be that other members are doing so as well.

Lovers of irony may cherish the fact that the motion to introduce the Scheme was proposed by a certain Mr Lowey.

Dudley Butt is also a 5% contributor from the outset of scheme,it really does question Karran's credibility on this.

As for TowelEdd Lowie,he needs ejecting from Tynwald immediately, Bell's going to look ridiculous if he doesn't at least censure Lowey for his loose gobshite attitude.

Do as I say not as I do being a very apt mantra for a Member of Legco.
