It's a shame that we get ripped off so much over here. I want an external filter for my small fish tank so checked on Amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0055F7F9O/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 - £54.90

i then decided to check local to see if i could get one quicker and pay a little more

http://www.tynwaldpetcentre.com/store/product/6650/Tetratec-External-Filter-EX-600/

£97.49 which is a "special price"

Rip off IOM. I would love to shop local but with markups like that, they can forget it.

how are you getting ripped off, the local price is based on far higher overheads, wages for local people and paying local taxes that get spent on local people

at the end of the day they probably make less profit on the item than amazon

how are you getting ripped off,

If you get your calculator.......

got my calculator and it says the price is clearly shown, so how are they ripping you off

if you work i'm sure someone else could do your job cheaper so you rip your company off everyday using your logic

Well if you're happy enough paying double for something crack on.

Having the price shown doesn't mean they are not ripping you off, that's the stupidest thing I've read today.

I'll come see you next time I want to sell something!

It's very simple - Amazon buy a fuck sight more of them that Tynwald Pets do. If you buy lots, you can get a better deal from the manufacturer so you can sell it for less but still make a profit. Go to a small independent pet shop in the UK and you'll find the price is similar to the one at Tynwald

why come see me, i'm like you and don't care if a retail business fails because it pays tax, has overheads, sells far less items so need to make more profit on what it does sell etc etc as long as i get what i want at the cheapest price

the difference is i'm not so stupid that i don't understand why they have to charge more

I stopped shopping in HMV the day I saw them trying to peddle old Star Trek box sets for £35 a piece. That is daylight robbery as far as I'm concerned. I bought them for £15 each from Amazon instead.

It's odd, because iTunes also charges a hell of a lot for video content. Surely without the need for postage, packaging or physical storage cost, such videos ought to be cheaper on iTunes? Yet quite often things are cheaper even in places like HMV than they are on iTunes. Just one example would be a movie like The Goonies (1985), which was £3 in HMV - at least the one on Oxford Street -- but £5.99 or £6.99 on iTunes. Can someone explain that to me? Surely bandwidth cost doesn't exceed the aforementioned physical distribution cost?

I can understand them charging a bit more, and I usually do buy local (not that HMV is Manx) instead of going online, but HMV really have been taking the p-ss for years.

Glad I returned something as soon as I heard they were in trouble, would've been £200 and a years warranty down the drain!

The first year or did you buy an extended warranty?

A bit more is acceptable, 100% more isn't.

the rrp is £129.99 according to amazon who are selling it at 58% off, clearly you think that offering just 25% off is a rip off so how much more discount should the manx shop be offering?

Amazon bullshit about the RRP just as much as the next shop. I couldn't care less what they "claim" the RRP is. I care what they sell the item for

Plenty of places selling for miles less than £100
