The Crosby Pub

Recommended Posts

Stopped at The Crosby for tea on way home yesterday. It was curry night, I am partial to all types of curry so as it was a 'special' I thought a curry should be sampled ...plumped for 'Hot' Thai Green curry - now I wasn't expecting it to be as good as an establishment that specialises in that type of food but I wasn't quite expecting what I got. A cold plate/bowl with 6 small cubes of beef sitting on top of a spoonful (almost literally) of a bland creamy sauce - no sign of Thai spices, flavours or any heat whatsoever - this was served with a 'tower' of bizarre egg fried rice with flabby smoked bacon pieces and a soggy poppadum....not recommended - the whole thing tasted of smoked bacon - not my idea of a Thai dish.

My folks had 'normal' pub grub - nothing spectacular there either steak was OK but the accompanying sides of onion rings and chips were unappetising to look at and greasy.....request to leave the herbs out of queenies was accepted and was told wouldn't be a problem - needless to say the queenies arrived with herbs!!. The highlight was a bowl of green beans !!

Plus side - the staff were extremely friendly and obliging. The folks are getting on and don't like to make a fuss but did we pass a 'quiet' comment which was accepted by the lad 'waiting on' but that was it. Will vote with feet and won't be rushing back.

Sadly I think it's "pot luck" at the Crosby.

We went there a few weeks back ,on a Sunday, for a family event. Have to say that on a scale of 1 to 10 they would maybe have got a 1.

Choice was OK, but portions were tiny, most of our meals were at best warm and we got a portion of veg that had to be shared between 3 people. Most of the food looked to be reheated frozen" boil in the bag" stuff (including the meat).

Felt sorry for what looked like just 2 young staff doing everything. Don't blame them, they did what they could, but when you get crap service, have to order things twice then wait 30 mins before having to cancel coffees etc. an opinion is formed.

Wont be going back for any family occasion again as it was just too embarrassing. (Strangely, they seemed to expect a tip too!)

However a week or so later our daughter went there through work and got an amazingly good meal, and received good service too.

Just a great shame these places are not consistant in their offerings.

PS, they could also offer a prize to the person who guesses correctly what is in the "fish pie" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It does seem to go up and down. Had a very good meal a few weeks back and then yesterday a friend said he and his family had a terrible meal there a few nights ago. The steak pie he had was so inedible, that he took it home for the dog.

I think I might struggle to eat in the Rovers. Something tells me that their kitchen might smell like their bogs.

If you want a Curry, the Rovers Return has a Curry night on Thursdays and they are bloody good.

Crosby - food very good. £55 for main course and one drink each, me, wife one kids meal, one adult meal for a 6 year old as we noticed the kids meals looked very small.

6 year old had fish and chips for about twelve quid I think, and left hungry. He is not remotely fat.

We all left starving, and feeling a bit ripped off, which is. Shame because what food there was was very good.

The adults meals came with proper chips, and the kids mel came with McDonald's style skinny fries. I assume they have ha feedback that kids these days don't even like proper chips, which would be a bit sad if its the case.

9/10 for the food

3/10 for portion size/value

Whats happened to the place , has it been takin over by someone new in the last few months ? We used to go a lot and it was always good , we went yesterday and it was awful !

The service was terrible , we will not return and i would advise other people looking for a decent sunday lunch to give that place a wide berth as its gone down hill .....

We had tea there this week, OK for pub food, but nothing special. Brewery never seem to be able or willing to appoint or keep a permanent manager. Don't know why. One of the young staff made a quip about it becoming a Spar shop. Heard that a few times now.
