BigDave 252
Have you had a mad quote or is it a public space that's being mowed at massive expense? I'll say £12k pa
Snowflake 83
Not bad, BigDave! £30k, per annum, for one hour per week. Contract went to tender to approved contrators only. Surely, with this and another contract just outside Peel, tendered out at £100k, the government should have employed someone full time, to do this work?
alibaba 1,183
Did that contract go to J Graham/Groundcare?
Snowflake 83
No idea, alibaba, do you know?
Thomas Jefferson 2,560
£30k, per annum, for one hour per week. Contract went to tender to approved contrators only. Yet more corruption from the government.

Seriously, if true then this is completely unacceptable. Have you got proof that it's this much and that it only takes one hour per week?
orbit 71
If it costs this much, surely they should tarmac the area, at least that would give a hard standing for burger vans without cluttering the road up. Edited July 8, 2013 by orbit

BigDave 252
It's likely to be quite a bit more work than that for £30k, and probably covering more area than just that little bit and possibly more than just mowing. Or at least you'd hope so. My figure is actually one that a private developer would have paid around 10 years ago to get grass cut once a week on a new site, so not a total stab in the dark. Snowflake 83
It probably is a bit more than a quick mow once a week, but at those prices, why not just employ someone, supply the kit needed and probably get all the work done for a third of the money. My source will remain anonymous, as it could be disasterous for them if they were found out. Let me add that they are very reliable.
Albert Tatlock 11,277
If it's regular work, I reckon you should get a decent quote for around £30 for the two hours. Alternatively, get the DOI to have a look at it. Including consultants, risk assessments, digging it up, putting it back down and cutting it, and David Cretney to subcontract it out, mistype and then lose the contract, and go out on a few jollies on it, around £3M a week.
