Bmw Repairs

Recommended Posts

Anyone got a BMW and used a garage on the island that they would recommend. I am assuming the BMW garage would be the most expensive one to use but anyone who has used any others and would recommend please indicate.

Cheers.

Q&S and Haydn Minays have both done work on mine. No complaints. The only issue with both was the wait for oem parts that had to be ordered through Buchannan.

I can thoroughly recommend M & K up at the IoM Business Park. Over the years they have done work for me on a BMW and an Audi; always to my total satisfaction. They specialise in German cars and their rates are a fraction of the BMW dealership's.

Another vote for M & K.

What do you need doing? most BMW engineering is quite simple. It is only when you get in the engine that it becomes a bit less straight forward.

It needs a regeneration doing on it as the diesel particulate filter is blocked in the exhaust and only specific BMW software can do it. I kinda knew we might have this problem with it as you don't get the opportunity to give the cars a good thrashing like you would a regular motorway run across. Just hope it doesn't need a new filter!

It doesn't need any special software really. They all tell you that. It's what they're told to say.

No they do, certain functions can only be done using a manufacturers bespoke software, more so with newer cars.

Whatever. Some garages have it and some don't so I need a garage that does. Had two garages say no so far as they don't have it, before I posted this up, so I guess they must have some kind of point.

Open your eyes. You're falling for a line given to you by the grease monkeys but which has been scripted by the ones who really run all the garages.

Before you do anything complicated, I'd get someone to check the EGR valve. Imo, they need cleaning every major service and sometimes don't get done. However some performance diesels do suffer from not getting enough stick on the islands roads. The Lexus is220d is a good example and your Beemer might be too.

M&K is the place to go, I know 1 of the owners and he has huge experience in a vast variety of makes of cars and Is a chap who won't rip you of and is as honest as day is long.

Dave Parry at Station Garage, Port Erin used to be service manager at Buchanann BMW. I am sure he can help.

Have you tried giving it a good thrash? Like go along Gansey in second gear at high revs for a few minutes? might just clear the thing out. Giving a car a good thrash does not need a motorway!

Alternatively, how about removing it altogether!

I had to do this with a diesel we had once. The garages should really recommend against people buying them for island use imo.

Over the mountain and back twice in second gear did it. Sometimes the "burn off" or whatever they call it is only initiated after a certain time over a certain rev.
