Iom Festival Of Motorcycling / Mgp Roadwatch 2013

Broadway traffic lights were a fucking joke this afternoon if you were coming down the hill. With the demolition of the Mannin making it narrow, about 1 car every light change was managing to get on the prom, along with all the stupid fuckers going through lights and then blocking every exit.

Why can't they get a policemen on these junctions to direct traffic? One policeman for a few hours with good directing skills could have kept it all moving. As for keeping the horse trams running at the same time as well...

Spot on. The prom was an absolute joke all afternoon, and yet they had that idiot in charge of highways on the radio yesterday congratulating himself about lack of congestion. The whole MGP is just one utter pain in the arse. You can put up with it in TT because of everything else going on that makes up for it, but MGP, what's the point?

Ask the 15.000 or so people who come to the Island and spend their money. It's called Tourism and benefits many many people not least the Steam packet, Airport, garages, food outlets, pubs, and brings a lot of nice people and colour to our Island for a couple of weeks. I take it from your comments that you don't make any money out of it, otherwise you would think it was OK. How modern and selfish of you.

The evening closure will only be used if there is a delay during the day

Where's that figure from?

I think he's basing it on ferry traffic over the period, but forgetting to factor in how many locals travel away over MGP as it's a good time to get off the Island if you are self employed and can't make as much money as usual, or work in a business on the course, or just want to avoid the hassle of the roads.

As Kevster said, its in case of delay. They'd be shut right through but the hour opening is to help everyone get out of Douglas after work.

True, of the 8 people I deal with on a day to day basis for work 6 of them are off island ATM and will not be back until next week, they mostly went away early or just before Practice week too.

This period is also tied in with school summer holidays when lots take their family away so if we have 15K on the IOMSPCO I would wager that far more than 50% of those trips are not people coming here to watch the Festival of Motorsport.

Getting conflicting information on the state of the roads. All sources saying roads open car is making its way around the course but EnergyFM have just announced that the course is closing again at 6pm whereas the MGP Facebook pages says roads not closed until Friday morning now???

There was no delay in the racing schedule so the later closure wasn't needed amd the roads open car left St Ninians at around 4:30.
