Port Erin Development

Recommended Posts

Apparently the site of the old outdoor swimming pool is now close to being approved for redevelopment into a hotel and marine complex.

Thoughts?

Is there not a new hotel development included in the plans for the Marine Biological Station?

The reason there are so few hotels in Port Erin now is that demand for them has waned to a considerable extent

Families on holiday are much more likely to seek self-catering apartments/cottages

It's probably more to do with the crazy prices land / new flats sells for rather than lack sheer lack of demand for Hotel rooms. There's just more money to be made, more easily by knocking hotels down and building ridiculously overpriced flats.

How many times is it now that it has been close to actually starting. I strongly doubt if it ever will, judging by the amount of time it is taking to repair the Cliff Paths.

Where do you get your information ? There's more money to be made out of flats by developers and Estate Agents. Plus a lot less work. Port Erin has been destroyed by these eyesores for the rich, and has a bomb -hole where once stood a beautiful hotel, with what looks like a rundown Prison Camp next to it where once stood the wonderful 'Belle Vue Hotel'. If you never remember the 'Belle' in it's prime, you don't know what you missed. [it was incidently where one of our 'Top MHKs' was brought up] Don't start with the 'No-one goes on holiday in the British Isles any more ' drivel, there are millions holidaying in the UK, its just that Finance was a lot easier and again much less trouble for the IOM Gov . We could still have a good holiday industry, if the powers that be put as much effort into it as they do into keeping the FS happy. Now I await your burble on ,Good Business Practice, Branding, Market Research, Business Plans etc. Don't bother

As part of a paying party staying at the Belle we were once told to 'get back to fucking bed' by a certain individual

You must remember how good it was then, and must be ashamed to see the state of it now. Why are the developers/owners allowed to leave it in that state.? I don't know who is responsible ie. PE Commissioners, Planning Dept, MHKs [for the South] or the owners/developers/builders, but I do know they are all a bloody disgrace for allowing a once beautiful hotel, which brought much money to the village, to rot away.
