£3M To Build Custody Block

Gov. expression of interest

" Suitable applicants are sought for the installation of covert listening devices and cameras in the new multi-million pound custody suite at Police Head Quarters, Douglas.

It is envisaged that the installations would be in the holding cells, interview rooms and areas, public areas and bogs (submersible camera installation experience is a must).

Any person who wishes to register an interest in supplying covert technology should write to - The Department of Home Affairs (The office with the big door and too much fucking money) Douglas, Isle of Man. closing date - Sometime after April, when we manage to get even more money out of Eddie for more daft ideas coz, hey, you cannot take it with you and basically we are all fucked anyway, but we will have a nice new custody suite, fire station and a banging new TETRA 2 radio system. Lets face it, the other one was pretty shit anyway, but the man that came round with a sample in his bag was very, very nice."

"available for development"

Which appears to be code for another Gov. owned building/plot that no one seems to activly seeking a buyer for.

Why not just build a barbed wire compound out at Jurby with huts just like the UK Government did in Northern Ireland, G4S could look after them, cost would be minimal.

Seems like a good plan for Castle Mona. Move Police HQ and Lord St there, close to the action, 30 cells on the top floor....

Close to the action?? Douglas is dead.

No one seems to have asked what will happen to The Lord Street site once all police activity goes back to the out of town HQ

They'll probably give it to The Sefton so they can demolish it and leave another bit of wasteland.

With the old prison on Victoria Road being so close to Douglas Police HQ, would it not have been more practical to spend some money (like the cost to demolish it) on refurbishing it instead. At least the cells were already there with more than enough room for bookings / custody and police facilities. It would have just been an extended area of Police HQ for detaining people in the cells. It would have been perfect for access, secure and even kitchen and medical facilities as needed.

The second question is who was responsible for the Lord Street Police station and the cells being located on the 1st floor breaching health and safety regulations. From what I understand, the difference between a restrained and compliant 'offender' is that they cannot take offenders wearing handcuffs up and down stairs. Did they employ consultants to design and build the station this way? Who was responsible for the design and poor planning which has caused so much cost to the tax payer and why have they not been sued for negligence? This is why consultants, professionals and architects have professional indemnity insurance. Surely, the government isn't just going to say oops, we made a silly mistake there, we'll just go and waste a load more money doing something else to fix the problem.

Someone must be responsible and accountable for the incredibly poor management, design, build and expense.

You would think so, wouldn't you?

Form IOMOnline: "The Department of Home Affairs has applied for planning permission to build a custody block at police headquarters in Douglas."

‘The proposed development will be designed and constructed to the latest specifications for police custody units and provide enhanced facilities for healthcare and legal advisers.'

</body>

So, we're taking away money from education and spending it on the prison-industrial complex. What a completely disgusting load of bastards.
