The Future Of Core Air Links To The Island

It's getting very boring now - BA probably don't want to do it any more based on this!

Yet again, the magic word, hope.

Often found in sentences involving Shimmin - though usually in 'hopeless'.

Those that can - do, those that can't - teach, those that can't do or teach become MHKs it seems.

Still no news from BA on this. On the plus side, John Shimmin really does sound like he's got direct Scottish routes almost ready to relaunch, and I'm guessing it's either Loganair or Citywing for it. Travelling to Edinburgh via Manchester is just awful, and expensive.

Don't think Loganair will go back into it after just dropping it. Unless of course there's a subsidy involved.

the link shows what is happening to Guernsey now easyjet wish to fly Gatwick Guernsey and Aurigny (the Guernsey state owned airline) has just bought a jet at taxpayers risk

No comment from me about whether the IOM should go that way, or should have, but the numbers are interesting; Guernsey, with a smaller population and smaller economy seems to have more travellers and a larger proportion go via London Gatwick

Which just goes to show that there is no right or wrong way of approaching the issue when you are an island. You just have to get by as best you can, trying not to swing too far one way or the other and therefore not flexible enough to alter with changing circumstances, which we clearly did with Open Skies free-for-all.

There are probably a greater proportion going to LGW from Guernsey than the Isle of Man because :-

a) They do not have a direct service to LCY and it would seem would much rather a more frequent service to LGW.

b) The Isle of Man market is still more biased towards the North West.

I notice from the report that the airport barely breaks even, no wonder open skies were not keen on meeting them.

Well, it's the end of October and still no promised 2 x BA London City flights for next year. Going to be pants next year for the island's businesses, but probably good for the hotels!

Cretin's overuse of the word 'hope' doesn't seem to be bringing any good news.
