£50 Sewerage Charge

Recommended Posts

It's an utter disgrace imposing this, then stating it's going to increase each year.

Just another indicator of the government inability to address their own follies and take responsibility for their positions of trust, in 'looking after the island' instead of looking after themselves. Disgusting.

Yet another household cost that has to be found from somewhere, while wages aren't rising but every other fecking thing gets more and more expensive.

'No-one wants to pay for things they have previously had free of charge but we have to do it.' The Chief Minister (quoted on page 9 of today's Examiner)   What a moronic thing to say. We pay taxes,

When will they get the message that the fairest way to cover the 'costs' of things like this is to not give pay increases to the whole of the government/CS/PS in times of austerity.

I hate this argument. Its like they all think they are doing us a fucking favour by letting some people stay in non jobs because otherwise it might kill the ecomony. Its tantamount to a threat to caus

Am I correct In thinking that this toilet tax is to pay for Iris?

If this is the case why not simply STOP paying any more for the IRIS scheme, go to a cheaper and simpler solution. The Victorians put it a mile or so out to sea - that worked well for over £100 years and would still be working if we had maintained the pipes.

It's the waste in government that is the problem. That's it. It is far, far too big for our population. It could be sustained whilst we were getting a multi million pound cash injection every month that had nothing to do with the performance of our economy. Now it can't. It really is that simple although difficult to sort out from where we are now.

Forget about "we are subsidising the rich". Sorry, you are not. A tax capper pays £120k a year in tax and it's a shame that we don't have a lot more of them for us to "subsidise". Remember, they are very mobile and can easily take themselves off elsewhere. We won't have to "subsidise" them anymore, but we will be £120k a head light in the coffers.

It's the state. Huge and hugely costly, particularly those at the upper levels who would like to model their lifestyle on the tax cappers with the vital difference that it is at the taxpayers' expense.

Have to say that I think you are "spot on" Woolley.

Agreed. What's happening here is a microcosm of what's happening across the rest of the western world. Socialist countries with a huge oversized state now realising the money ain't there to pay for it anymore, but facing the problem of how to keep it going or downsize it without imploding the economy.

I don't get pissed off about much these days but I'm pissed off by this. I've made some radical lifestyle choices so I can live a life as cheaply as possible. I live in one of the smallest houses on the Island and pay £350 rates (including sewerage charges) a year for the privilege. £350 is actually more than my energy bills for the year and another £50 on top for the Scat Tax (nice one BTW) is a step too far.

I need to do something about this but not sure what. I'm going to write to my MHK but I want to do more. I'm not a very action type person these days - any suggestions about how I can make a fuss about this? (Walking naked carrying a banner past the wedding cake is not an option).

Go round and take a dump on your MHK's doorstep, they'll soon get the message.stuart.gif The stool on the step protest.

ETA: Take a large dose of laxatives beforehand and show them you really mean business.

They've probably sneaked in a £200 charge to take a dump on an MHK's doorstep.

It would deflate their egos far to much to admit that kind of defeat.

I'd hate it if envelopes of turd were put through the letter boxes of politicos who vote for this

That would be awful

Your right Donald,it would be a criminal waste of paper, save the envelope and take a dump straight in the letterbox.

Time to change to composting toilets!

If you thought having to explain to the TV licensing man that you didn't have a TV was hard, just wait till the Scat Tax collecector comes a calling.

Fantastic!!! w00t.gif Calling TBT!!

Wonder if they'll get Crapita on the job. "We have reason to believe that you are using an unlicensed arse on these premises."
