£50 Sewerage Charge

Recommended Posts

Judy - the rates system is inequitable due to individual commissioners setting their own rates. The rateable values are equitable if the same rate percentage is set island wide, as is being suggested for the bog tax.

Shake me up...........Its not a good idea, but its a better idea than a flat charge which is inequitable.........unless you believe that a flat £100 per property is a better solution.

Stupid politicians. They could have just upped water rates and avoided all the drama. Toilet tax will go up lots over the next few years by the way. Serves you all right for shitting like the filthy animals you all are.

I was right! Hooray!

What are you claiming credit for being right about? They said it would go up every year when they introduced it.

They didn't say lots. I said lots.

They started at £50 a year and said it would go up by £50 each year till it reached £300. That might not be lots to you but it is to some.

It's "user pays" innit?

It sounds eminently fair as many of these "devil take the hindmost" principles do, but it throws away the civilised societal norm established over many decades of struggle that the broadest shoulders lend a hand to the less blessed.

Is there any cases where the private householder refuses to pay it, there was talk about that when it was first introduced, the trouble is all Council/Commissioners tenants have no choice, it's put on the rent and rates automatically, thereby hitting the poorer section.

It's linked to ratable value now but is still a stealth tax we didn't have to pay until recently!
