wrighty
Not being a superstitious religious type, I've never observed Lent. However, Mrs Wrighty suggested earlier that instead of giving something up for Lent, it would be a good idea to do something positive for 40 days, instead of not eating chocolate or whatever it is that people usually do. Haven't decided what I'll do yet - some form of exercise probably - but I think it's a good idea, and I commend it to the forum. Any takers? Walk round the IOM on the coastal footpath (or at least what remains of it) in 40 days, that'll be ~ 2 miles a day. & take a dog with you.
Thomas Jefferson
I suppose I could be persuaded to give up Manx Forums for the forty days of lent, if £100 in an unmarked brown envelope found its way to me. Jesus' forty days in the desert are the same as Siddhartha Gautama's forty nine days under the Bodhi tree. It's a universal mythological motiff for letting go of attachment to the material world. No need for any religious belief whatsoever.

Of course, how do we get that envelope to you without you having to be coerced into revealing your identity?
alibaba
Where do you live? Seriously, you couldn't stay off here for 4 days, never mind 40.

John Wright
I would contribute . TJ what would your forfeit be if you posted within the 40 days? Would you agree a ban? 10 days for every day you are short of the 40?
Thomas Jefferson
If you prove you've donated it to the SA then I would agree to that (assuming you don't just label everyone a sock puppet of me as a pretext to keep banning). Giving up this forum for 40 days is like giving up a kick in the teeth.
Pierrot Lunaire
Blimey. A John Wright ban that actually comes with a reason. How novel.
