Two PokerStars Announcements: IOM Chess Tournament and 2014 Poker Tournament

Recommended Posts

Hi,

PokerStars made two announcements this morning that may be of interest. PokerStars is sponsoring two events to take place in the Isle of Man in October this year. This is the return of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour to IOM (October 2 to 6) and also the PokerStars IOM International Chess Tournament (October 4 to 12). These two events will combine to create an exciting mind sports festival in Douglas at that time.

Here are links to the announcements with more details:

Woo, on the Poker. Less woo on the chess tournament, but it's good it's coming to the island.

Well that's not the way to ask them to sponsor the site !

Yeah coz PokerStars need the free advertising of the forum!!

That's not the point. Should we make exceptions to the T&Cs for very large businesses? Gambling in particular is something that doesn't need promoting. I expect the intention of the company with this thread was to generate debate and draw attention to their commercial events. It's advertising, plain and simple.

And by posting I am bumping the thread!

The only mistake is it isn't in the right forum. It should have been in Events but that's the only issue with it. Stop being so wet. It's a good news item in a forum full of negativity.

Chess is a good move. The prize pot is an attraction, probably for some big names. Should be a regular.

Once could argue that this is merely highlighting an event that they are sponsoring/hosting....not advertising the company per se.

If you wanted to go down that road then surely any local event which had a headline sponsor would be prevented from being talked about.
