I wonder how this is economic without UK subsidies which seem to be what pays for the other windfarms, unless it's done by the inflated payment when it's fed into the national grid irrespective of where it's based

Depending on the location it is liable to affect passing shipping traffic

What some people may have forgotten is that in 2014 a special UK planning enquiry was held at The Villa Marina with respect to the proposed extension to the Walney Island wind farm.

From what I recall, IOM Government (Airport, Planning Department and perhaps others) and the IOM Steam Packet and other ferry companies all objected to the proposals for various reasons based mainly around safety.

How hypocritical that now IOM Government is the one trying to encourage development of this type of activity but right on our doorstep. From what I recall, approval was given for the Walney Island extension so, if this one goes ahead, with a good set of ropes I reckon you will be able to swing yourself all the way to Barrow in Furness.

If there were safety concerns for the Walney Island development, surely those concerns are going to be the same for this one? I suspect we will see a classic piece of joined up Government - one Department objecting on planning grounds to the plans of another.

Agreed.

Non-starter. Economics of it don't stack up anymore with the reducing UK subsidies. They were the only thing that made these things viable in the first place. Fracking will be the final nail in the coffin. The only problem is that the ones that have been built will be left to rot when they are life expired.

I don't understand why the powers that be are so delighted at fucking up Manx Territorial Waters to supply electricity to the UK.

If it's such a great site for generating power, why is that not coming to the Isle of Man?

OK the Manx Government might get £5 million a year to waste on harf arsed projects.

We will still look down at our electricity bills and shudder, then look up at those ugly things spoiling our views and supplying electricity to another country.

They'd sell the Island itself it they thought it would balance the books and keep them in the fashion to which they've become accustomed.

Cheap efficient electricity (not that it is !) can never come here whilst the MEA debt has to be serviced, it will always be destined for elsewhere. However in respect of wind farms without the subsidy they make no sense for an investor. Wind farms produce electricity at a cost no one can afford to buy, that is their achilles heel whether they are 'green' is also a matter of opinion !

Fully agree with diligaff.Glad I got to Fuck away, best thing I ever did.

Then why bother getting involved with anything over here if you find the Island so offensive. Your attitude and foul language will be no sad loss to the Island

In many ways they already have done
