Rhumsaa
Before the world cup a lot of people predicted England being second best to Italy & Uruguay so this is no surprise. The real test will be if they capitulate to Costa Rica and what sort of team plays for that game. Uruguay had a disappointing result and made 5 changes. England rolled out the same team with 1 positional change and got the same result. But who else is in that squad (or missed out on the squad) and could come in and make the difference? The Sick Moon
Why all the fuss about England anyway? More natural for us to support Wales,Ireland or even Scotland than those tossers from over there. Yeah but none of those countries qualified.

I´ll back the Netherlands this time around. At least they stay on thier side of the pond!
The Sick Moon
That is correct. But what did England ever do for us? I´ll back the Netherlands this time around. At least they stay on thier side of the pond! I suppose I'll never be able to understand the way the Manx approach football. Not having any teams of your own playing in any league of importance, you seem to attach yourselves to any team which takes your fancy, on the loosest of pretexts. This is the case at both a national and international level. Take ans's declaration of support for Uruguay for example! It has to be this way I suppose, but can you ever feel the passion, the joy and pain that one who truly belongs to a team feels? I somehow doubt it. Your posts reinforce my doubt. Rhumsaa
I see Luis Suarez has turned around and said he dreamed of scoring against England has retribution for all the things the English have said about him in the past 3 years....

Whilst England have been rubbish a World Cup thread about Wales, Ireland or Scotland would be pretty short and futile.
Rhumsaa
did anyone else see the guy in the crowd with all the Uruguay supporters in a tartan bonnet waving a Scotland flag?

ans
Following a sport is always more interesting if you support a team and without international status for the Isle of Man, you sometimes have to just pick something because reasons, no matter how obscure or tenuous. I have no obvious ties to any team I follow really, whether it be the Spurs, Seahawks, Marlins, Villa or Uruguay but I've been aligned with all of them but one for over twenty years (Marlins just five). Your sense of identity with those teams is entirely personal. I would agree though, switching allegiance because of poor performance isn't really in the spirit of following a team. Part of it means sticking with them through the lows as well as enjoying the highs.
Rhumsaa
Yeah the American sports is a good example - with no real geographical connection you have nothing but randomness to bring an association to a team. They are usually the best stories too as to why you settled on a team to support.
The Sick Moon
Who supports American sports teams? Apart from Americans of course.
