The Sick Moon
Italy not doing England any favours so far! I'd be happy to see them going home to be honest. Costa Rica and Uruguay for the progress!

The Border Terrier
Hodgson's not for turning. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27932352 and has the backing of Greg Dyke http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27945473 and Lonan3. #56. "...probably the only man up to the job of leading England at the moment." So that's at least 2 more years of purgatory. I wonder if the FA kept their receipt? TBT. thommo2010
Fact is England probably done more than was expected of them. They worked hard but really they have no quality they have 1 player in Joe Hart who is a regular that plays for the English champions that says it all to me

I don't think the manager is a big deal in this and I doubt that anyone could have done any better. Problem is England are not very good and besides that, the players are too comfortable, too highly paid, would rather be on the beach and are just not hungry enough to perform in internationals. There isn't enough pride in the shirt or the country.

The Sick Moon
What do the French team do to succeed that the English don't (apart from having a goal fest)? An interesting question. I wonder if a lack of work abroad is to blame for England's lack of comparative success. Compare the clubs where the French squad play. And then the English. Amazing really. 1 Hugo Lloris (captain) goalkeeper, Tottenham 2 Mathieu Debuchy defender, Newcastle 3 Patrice Evra defender, Manchester United 4 Raphaël Varane defender, Real Madrid 5 Mamadou Sakho defender, Liverpool 6 Yohan Cabaye midfielder, Paris Saint-Germain 7 Rémy Cabella forward, Montpellier 8 Mathieu Valbuena midfielder, Marseille 9 Olivier Giroud forward, Arsenal 10 Karim Benzema forward, Real Madrid 11 Antoine Griezmann forward, Real Sociedad 12 Rio Mavuba midfielder, Lille 13 Eliaquim Mangala defender, Porto 14 Blaise Matuidi midfielder, Paris Saint-Germain 15 Bacary Sagna defender, Arsenal 16 Stéphane Ruffier goalkeeper, Saint-Etienne 17 Lucas Digne defender, Paris Saint-Germain 18 Moussa Sissoko midfielder, Newcastle 19 Paul Pogba midfielder, Juventus 20 Loïc Rémy forward, Queens Park Rangers 21 Laurent Koscielny defender, Arsenal 22 Morgan Schneiderlin midfielder, Southampton 23 Mickael Landreau goalkeeper, Bastia 1 Joe Hart goalkeeper, Manchester City 2 Glen Johnson defender, Liverpool 3 Leighton Baines defender, Everton 4 Steven Gerrard (captain) midfielder, Liverpool 5 Gary Cahill defender, Chelsea 6 Phil Jagielka defender, Everton 7 Jack Wilshere midfielder, Arsenal 8 Frank Lampard midfielder, Chelsea 9 Daniel Sturridge forward, Liverpool 10 Wayne Rooney forward, Manchester United 11 Danny Welbeck forward, Manchester United 12 Chris Smalling defender, Manchester United 13 Ben Foster goalkeeper, West Bromwich Albion 14 Jordan Henderson midfielder, Liverpool 15 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain midfielder, Arsenal 16 Phil Jones defender, Manchester United 17 James Milner midfielder, Manchester City 18 Rickie Lambert forward, Liverpool 19 Raheem Sterling midfielder, Liverpool 20 Adam Lallana midfielder, Southampton 21 Ross Barkley midfielder, Everton 22 Fraser Forster goalkeeper, Celtic 23 Luke Shaw defender, Southampton Maybe travel broadens the sporting mind. Donald Trumps
I suppose we have the benefit of a fantastic premier league (or at least, SKY & BT Sports fans do) But a national team with little real exposure to international play
