Other Peoples' Money - TETRA upgrade gets go ahead

Why didn't they have a spare consol? As a photographer I carry a spare camera body. Most of the time it sits in the bag doing nothing but it's there when I need it. If it wasn't there I'd be screwed in an emergency. Lesson to be learnt there. As for Gee Cee's theory that it was deliberately staged...whatever.gif

Carrying spares ............ involves forward planning, technical knowledge and ability. Something way beyond DHA staff capability. Nobody has the vision or foresight to

Plan for eventuality/incidents. Management of government departments and their political paymasters are not interested in whether it works or not, after all why should they? They do their job, get paid and provided they don't rock the boat, get a gong for a job well done. It's us taxpayers who have to foot the bill for their screw ups. This is repeated throughout IOM. Not me guv generation - it's someone else's responsibility .......,,, followed by the cover up .......... or inquiry ........... LESSONS LEARNED!

I have just listened to the Clerk of the Course on Manx Radio News and it appears the issue lies with the Red Emergency button not working on the console in the Control Tower (for those of you who don't know what the Red Button is all about it is pressed on a marshals mobile radio to declare an emergency) which in turn sounds an alarm in the Control Tower.

So if this is the case why don't the marshals use just a voice call to declare an emergency?

Why don't the Sector marshals keep in touch with control via mobile phones?

Why are all their eggs in one basket? and what would happen if this same issue arises with a Police radio?

Typical over complication of a radio scheme in my opinion.

No doubt we will have some Department of Home Affairs spin on this soon, blaming someone else other than them!

And what did they do before Tetra or mobile phones?!!!

Old system or it's 5 million upgrade surely everything should have been tested yesterday to ensure everything was funtional knowing there was a raceday following I still agree with 2012 !! Typical Manx cock up.

The box will have been used all week. Why should they specially have to test it on Sunday? I'm sure they were surprised when it failed, but efforts were made to repair it, and racing eventually got going.

This island is full of highly paid civil servants and government flunkies. My view is that the systems should be checked morning, noon and night irrespective of whether it was done yesterday. We claim to be leaders in motor sports events............. on this fiasco I think not. Also when the upgrade is done, I would like to think that it is regularly maintained. We are leaders at wasting money but useless at investing in infrastructure for the future.

Maybe it was checked in the morning and discovered it wasn't working or should it have been checked before it was checked?

Things break that's life racing was delayed for a few hours big deal hardly massive problems

I think the point is that there are a lot of people who are not even vaguely interested in the MGP who have put up with road closures all week even when the racing clearly isn't going to go ahead as its peeing down - who might have quite liked to get out of the house on a Bank Holiday had the roads not been closed for an extra 3 hours twatting about on the hottest day in 2 months.
