iomtt.com Forum Being Shut Down!

Recommended Posts

Stupid decision. The forum is the first place for many fans to go and look for information, pictures, etc.... Twitter is well on the way out and not everyone uses or likes Facebook. Who the hell makes these decisions? Can they not ask or employ someone with a bit more of a clue?

I would imagine it is a pretty thankless task running a lot of forums and Facebook groups in general. Abusive language should never be tolerated towards those that give of their time freely to run and

Nothing to do with you joining it perchance?   Tosser.

Time to sign up! There's still time for me to get in 1,000+ posts.....

Forums are tough to run, there's a lot of responsibility as you know, and duke were probably charging them to moderate. They should have hoofed it off to a facebook group rather than shutting it down though.

I disagree, a forum ran by the fans/for the fans will do far better.

isn't that what duke was?

the head of racing used to get a right knocking on the forum

wasn't it 1m for 3 years duke got?

The forum was crap, I could never work out how to reply without quoting a post, deleting the quote and replying that way. I'll soon be signing upto the new forum although it seems to have been running for some time, its a little cluttered but it seems like its being run by one person, I've no doubt that'll change soon.

I agree it is a stupid thing to do, but perhaps for a different reason to most.

If government's intention is to control criticism, then surely retaining the leading TT forum, where comments can be edited and deleted, and members suspended and banned, is more effective than letting all the members go elsewhere to a forum where they can't be controlled and with a chip on their shoulder about the forum being closed.

That said, if government is paying dukes to provide a service which is then used, for free, as a platform for a small number of people to exchange specialist views and, often, attack the same government, I for one don't mind that bit of cash being saved.

I'm a TT fan, have been a long time, but am not a member of the forum and very rarely use it because it is the same small band of people with vested interests going round and round on the same subjects (sound familiar?). But I don't see why my taxes should be given to a private company to maintain a free platform for these people. If anything, this is a sound cut by government; costs money, makes nothing, serves no useful purpose to the manx population and, if anything, has done more to damage the reputation of the event than enhance it.

There are plenty of places to go and verbally wank over michael dunlop's expertise.

BUT, here's one for the conspiracy theorists, of which we have plenty. Is it any coincidence the forum is being closed the day before the motorcycle live show opens? This, traditionally, has been where the 'big' TT announcements are made, and the platform for the most vocal critics has been silenced just before it starts...what are they planning to say?

I'm not...I just hate the Sociopathic TSM. Really grinds my gears. Sorry.

I'm a massive fan of the TT...been involved for many years...but if you look at TSM'S posts about the TT over the past 5 years. ..you'll spot an agenda!

You silly troll, I only joined Manx Forums earlier this year so whatever agenda you've spotted is purely a result of your fevered imagination.

How much cash is being saved then? It's only the forum part that's going as far as I can tell, the rest of the site is staying. I doubt any cash is being saved.

well if you doubt it, then it must be true.

So how much do you think will be saved?

Hardly anything, but the fact it is a small amount saved doesn't mean it isn't worth saving. It is a pointless expenditure to provide a service of no benefit to the Island and its population, and therefore should not be funded by government.

If we make lots of small savings, they add up. Look after the pennies, and all that

As of tomorrow! Read all about it! Didn't see that one coming. According to this, it isn't Dukes decision, it's been forced on them by the DED. It's a strange one that, almost as if the DED are trying to stifle any public criticism of them on that site. Of which there was no shortage! Rofl......

More DED cuts. I thought the TT was one of the Islands huge success stories at the moment. Why would they want to close down something that provides an opportunity for real bike fans to discuss their passion . Or is that it ? there are not enough VIPs contributing

Let me see , where could we save a bucket full of pennies. 1 - No free parking for Government Workers

- Cut out the endless Off Island trips by MHKs

- Use some of the Government owned buildings as offices instead of paying vast rents

- cut all bonuses to ALL Government workers

- cut all Tax Holidays to both individuals and companies.

- Privatise Ronaldsway, if anyone is fool enough to want to buy it.

- stop erecting thousands of pointless plastic and tin signs all over the Island. It must be the World Leader for such trash.

- charge people with huge gas guzzling cars double road tax. Unless for work purposes there is no need whatsoever for them, apart from keeping up with the Jonses, , and taking Pippa and Ben to King Bills.

- bring in a surcharge on food for self- important fools on Lap Tops ( Business types ) in Cafés. NOW !!!!!!

I hope some of these very sensible suggestions meet with the Houses approval .

One more.

Track down all anti-TT contributors on here, birch them, then deport them, on the Manx Boat on the roughest day of the year. Strapped to the Funnel
