mannin1
The only thing that matters to any of them is their substantial monthly stipend at the expense of the taxpayer's of this impoverished Island. They will live in luxury whilst the minions live in penury You think so? To quote Eddie Teare: "You wouldn't do this for the money." Falser words were never spoken I am afraid, The newbies have now realised that if they tow the line they have a guaranteed income for life and the entire system just self perpetuates itself. Make a mess as an MHK and just reinvent yourself as an MLC, Same dosh for them and their families for the rest of their lives. This system is unsustainable and must be reformed as soon as possible.
Tarne
And who's going to reform it? You're not even going to go out with a sign post and protest, so it certainly isn't going to be any of us here.
Donald Trumps
We're all going to demand the abolition of LegCo in the run up to the Lisvane debate, aren't we? When is the Lisavane debate?

gettafa
April will make it less than a whole year before the next scheduled LegCo election in March 2018: Wild, Coleman (who he?) Turner, Corkish. Aye, the grass is long and deep.

gettafa
And more importantly, also at the hands of wannabe LegCos....our elected MHKs in the House of Keys. Once they get on the gravy train, the appeal of the first class carriage becomes irresistible and they ain't gonna unshackle that carriage. Roger Mexico
We're all going to demand the abolition of LegCo in the run up to the Lisvane debate, aren't we? When is the Lisavane debate? April. Don't expect much to change and don't expect any "major" changes to come in before the next election. It's a rather telling contrast between the speed with which Lord Lisvane (once he was finally appointed) took all his evidence and produced his report (in about three months) and the slowness with which the politicians and the civil service have dealt with it. It came out in June and even allowing for the General Election, there has been little discussion or attempt to implement any of it. Lisvane took very much a piecemeal approach with most of his recommendations being things that could be discussed or put in place pretty quickly and separately. To put off even a general debate for ten months is pretty poor. A quick consideration could have identified those parts which were non-controversial and those which required greater and individual scrutiny. Of course this follows the usual pattern of Tynwald dealing with its own reform. Fanny about for three years or so. Then have the Keys propose something that is popular in the safe knowledge that LegCo will veto it and it will be too late in the life of that Keys to over-ride the LegCo veto or to replace the obstructive LegCo members. Repeat every five years.
gettafa
Did I hear wroite on Manx Radio this mornig that there is going to to be dozens of amendment proposals in the House of Keys to the new Equality Bill? This Bill unusually started its course in the Legislative Council. Those wise men. Well I suppose they got sick of being ridiculed for their 20 minute meetings upstairs from Keys each week and needed something to chew on. Clearly they didn't do a very good job. eta: aye, got it: Manx Radio - Members will debate a total of 60 proposed amendments "There are a lot of flaws...."
