mannin1
Corrupt money grabbing people with no censure, ensures Ellan Vannin is going to be the joke that most of the UK treats it as. Trips to countries where these fuckwits are treated with the contempt they deserve, at great expense to our rapidly diminishing coffers carry on unabated, politicians pay, pensions and conditions are steadfastly ring-fenced whilst the average citizen is struggling to live on what is swiftly becoming a fair isle that shines with poverty not beauty. What happened ?
quilp
The undemocratic farce that is Leg-Co continues on unabated. Listening to this on Tynwald live makes even more of a case for the total abolishment of this so called Upper Chamber. Failed MHK's club it most certainly is and a total insult to the Manx electorate. The Manx electorate are an insult to democracy. Wilfully apathetic, politically unaware and quick to moan when scurrilous egoists are elected year on year. We have the government we deserve....
english zloty
Unfair. It's never really mattered before. There has always been money, very limited unemployment and largely stagnent political policy. So people lol'd and went meh. Now (in recent times) this policy has been turned on its head and so we need wise and politically astute leaders. Non of the above will become a battle cry. Donald Trumps
The Digital Democracy Commission report 'Open Up' mandates public involvement in the democratic process http://www.parliament.uk/business/commons/the-speaker/speakers-commission-on-digital-democracy/ddc-news/digital-democracy-commission-report-publication/ Public involvement in downsizing govt on the island is essential in my view as the incumbent administration really have no serious intent to rid us of this massive burden that is 'The Bloat' Edited March 18, 2015 by Donald Trumps
Wann
Digital technology has brought Parliamentary business to everybody from every walk of life and every profession. That incluses listening to live (or recorded) debates, instant access to Hansards, Legislation, Bills etc. The Legislative Council had a place in our society 50+ years ago, for sure. But not today. We cannot leave Advise, Revise and Scrutinise to the likes of ex chimlee sweeps and someone who has risen little from odd-job boy for the Steamie. The Legislative Council has become the elephant in the Tynwald Chamber. Edited March 19, 2015 by Wann
Wann
Bill Henderson was nominated by Eddie Teare, Treasury Minister. Bill Henderson's Tynwald CV shows he was a member of Treasury from 2014-date. That isn't the whole story though. Mr Henderson was a former member of Treasury and was sacked by Eddie Teare over a 'breach of trust'. Eddie gave a damning interview to Paul Moulton on MT TV Henderson sacked from Treasury. The matter was widely reported including on BBC website and IoMToday Isle of Man Newspapers. I suppose it is all in the past, and despite Eddie Teare saying he could not work with him, he not only took him back but rewarded him with the biggest and best early Christmas present a House of Keys Member could wish for - a nomination and support for the Legislative Council. Apparently, from Mr Henderson's reaction at Monday's House of Keys MLC ballot, you would have though Bill Henderson had won the lottery. I would suggest it's better than a lottery win. He won't have any money worries for the rest of his life and this seat will take him nicely over the 20 years service for a hefty Government pension too. Sacked from Treasury, only to return, keep his nose clean, suck, suck, suck up to Eddie (as he has done superbly well) and get MLC. Amazing. Yep, am undemocratic farce indeed. EORH
I don't think the two lawyers will get elected, you can't have two people with a brain in there, it would show the rest up as incompetent, if this was any other country in the world, the people would have got rid of them years ago by whatever means was available. The only way this Island is going to have a change from what we have in that Weddingcake is to vote for party politics, I know some will say oh you mean the Lib Van, but there is nothing stopping people forming another party, try it, it can' be any worse than the lemmings we have now.
