On the spot fine of £50 for smoking in a car carrying children

Recommended Posts

This includes the cost to the NHS of treating diseases caused by smoking in England which is approximately £2 billion a year.

Including VAT, total tobacco revenue is around £12.3bn annually.

This does not take into account the massive and widespread loss of income from fake/smuggled tobacco.

so 10x > 6x more brought in than spent.....not exactly wildly inaccurate.

It's a no brainer isn't it? I only wonder if £50 is too lenient. Make it £100! We need to stub this out!

What's the point. It's not as if anyone will actually get done for it. How many dick heads do you see every day using thier phones while driving yet none ever seem to end up in court.

Perhaps the Government's high moral ground on smoking may seem more genuine if they stopped profiteering from it. Perhaps all the money they raise from tax on tobacco should be put towards helping peo

But surely much more important than the money is the health and future of a child.

Exposing a child to tobacco smoke and the sight of adults smoking just has to be wrong.

I wonder how many people addicted to tobacco would be happy to see their own kids become addicted because of what their parents had done.

The figures are misleading. There are many and varied reasons...such as since 2007 at least a 1% drop in the number (population) of smokers, massive increases in tax. It's not just about public places. An 11 year old mathematics student could work that out.

There is so much propaganda on both sides of the smoking issue...neither side can be believed anymore IMO.

Smoking is bad for the smoker and those around them.

What else do we need to discuss?
