Declan
Douglas is separate constituencies to ensure it and the other communities receive equal representation. If Douglas was one seat with eight members and Ramsey one seat with two members a resident in Douglas would have four times the representation as a resident of Ramsey.
Barrie Stevens
Is it me or did he get elected because he is the only one with a proper Manx name?... I found that out when I had a go in 2005... Some said they would not vote for me due to my not being Manx... Later when I got an up to date Electoral Roll I noticed that a lot of the people who said they would only vote for a Manxman were not even registered to vote!... Offshore county! notwell
Too many MHK's, too many constituencies. MHK's do need a better remuneration package to attract the proper business minds. Although you could argue this wouldn't be an issue if the CS/PS wasn't clogged up at the top end with people that are only there through time done rather than real stellar input. notwell
Claire Bettison 146 Kurt Buchholz 75 Richard Falk 145 Jonathan Joughin 159 John Caley McBride 90 Geraldine O'Neill 131 Catherine Turner 108 Fuck me. 865 votes. Truly fucking woeful. And the man who won is a postie who couldn't post a letter to stay on the voters register as a town councillor. Now elevated above a town councillor. A job he lost a few months ago. Why can't Kurt Buckholz get more votes? He stood in my area last time and polled in last place. My only issue with him is his IOMSPC agenda. Aside of that he seems to have some skills and experience that could be useful.
Barrie Stevens
Mate, you came to our house, it had nothing todo with your name. And I did not say precisely that it did! I said some groups of people said they would not vote for me because I was not Manx and that they would only vote for a Manxman. The manifesto clearly stated that I was stemmed Walthamstow East London but then in Essex when I "manifested" I am under the impression that one can be Manxman without having a Manx name...Thus on this basis I suspect that culturally Manx name like Joughin would help whether one was a Manxman or not!! (There are a lot of people in the UK with Manx names and who are not Manxmen) The name is immaterial...

See Barrie fr further details. This is not you or me we sre talking about, it is the electorate of the Isle of Man.

Donald Trumps
Other than the expense of the administration of the election itself, the cost of the hire of polling stations - scouts hall, church and youth centre etc, cost of returning officers - promoting of notice boards etc .................it's been an expensive exercise in democracy. Still we are used to frittering money away. It's shocking! Time we had online voting, with maybe one or two polling stations for those who aren't really in the 21st century
Barrie Stevens
Mate, you came to our house, it had nothing todo with your name. Is 'cos I is black? Some people did say that about me! I was out in a very hot summer in the open for ten weeks rain and shine and wind and I did go a deep tan colour. I was told that I went the colour of a mahogany bar top! "They didn't vote for you in the end 'cos you looked like a "Wog!"..Mmm? Well I am a Wog if you count Huguenot ancestry as being Woggish. (Louis and Susanne Gilbert, Kirby le Soken, Essex 1693 refugees from France via Hook of Holland) Brenda Cannell and the late Geoff of the same name asked how did I get that colour. My reply was that I was aiming to be the public face of the Tourist Board...And that this was a sign from God you ignore at your peril! That is why you lost the VAT moollah! PS I gotta a Gt Gt Grandmother born Castletown 1815....

Uhtred
I think they should start having a "reserve" number of votes necessary to be elected......if you dont get say 33% of the registered votes in a constituency then you run it again until you do. An interesting idea. Do you know if such a system is operated in any parliamentary democracy?
