They sell loads of booze at Christmas, everyone is out all the time. Sounds like good business to me.

I think the brewery are concentrating on SPAR shops, Sub Post Offices and other associated businesses. I can easily believe that they will shut down various pubs, and put the buildings up for sale. A good way of generating income. Their pubs in Liverpool are probably a better bet than here. The growth areas in the shopping district of Douglas is coffee shops, charity shops and second hand stores - FACT!

I see a CEX is opening in Douglas high street. Sign of the times.

The brewery have a huge distribution business along with those very very lucrative spar shops. They are not interested in selling a pint for sensible money. The pubs could be full if things were more sensible. They would sell a lot more and make money. It's a strange approach.

Remember when H&B cut their prices?

http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/cheaper-manx-beer-cheers-1-1787246

They sold no more beer but put a lot less cash in the tills.

Demand for beer is not particularly elastic.

The Bath and Bottle is often rammed with young, impressionable people who spend a fortune on their drink.

The brewery doesn't even sell its own beer in its Artisan place on Victoria Street. But it seems to be doing quite well there, in spite of charging a lot more for inferior imported stuff.

It'll be interesting to see if they manage to import that vomit smell that their stores in the UK seem to have.

Perhaps if they take over an old pub site.....

Bloke in the pub told me they're going to shut 12 pubs after Christmas. Hardly surprising as mostly they're empty.

Hardly surprising with the prices they are charging and the quality of the ale, will certainly make me change my socialising schedule.

Our pubs are empty ----put the price up !! Some business policy

No-one used Manx Gas in the summer so they put the prices up. That didn't work so they banged a few quid on the standard charge, If the brewery followed their example, there could be an admission fee to enter a pub.

I guess the price of gym membership will drop too then to encourage the fat arses in??

There's nothing stopping you turning a spare room into a gym or exercising in the great outdoors. You could jog around any large town or village picking up dog poo and litter while you're at it. People would be talking about you and building statues in your honour for generations to come. You'll be a lot happier about yourself and your figure.

the prices had been jacked up quite substantially.

2p on a pint of bitter - I don't call that 'substantial'

Next time you're done doing the washing up in the kitchen sink, pour the dishwater into a pint glass and you've got yourself a pint of Okells for free.

I remember Okells bitter being described in a TT article in a bike magazine as "tasting and smelling like wet dog"...
