Now then, now then, now then, we'll have no more of that kind of talk round here. The planning department have been exonerated from any claims of their underhandedness by a thing, a what's it called? You know, one of them.

Corruption?

Weak regulation yes, but not a single shred of evidence to support someone taking a bung. Yes you can do the old Peter Karran bollocks about corrupted processes but when you use the C word everyone understands exactly what you mean.

Corruption comes in many forms. It's not just brown envelopes, it's 'you scratch my back', it's cronyism, nepotism, manipulation of the system, swerving regulatory obstacles, friendly favours, closing ranks, 'lost' documents, whitewash, inquiries dodged and bodged, tax relief, misclaimed grants. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Indeedy. "Reshuffle" Brown. He didn't come out of MM/Gubay business entirely smelling of roses either.

But he's still got a pension and a half to play with. So that's ok then.

Man-X

“When Wealth and Law go hand in hand, where shall a man turn?” Roly Drower found the answer to be, certainly not the Courts of the Isle of Man, because the scales of justice were weighted against him there right from the outset…..'

Further to this post, I am reminded of Roly's Illiam Dhone Oration below, which he gave over ten years ago.

That's really quite some legacy to leave behind. £10m a year increasing pretty quickly to £20m a year. I wonder how many people happy to slag the man off will be happy to put aside those views if a charitable donation is available?

The Foundation says the charity will be run in accordance with the guiding principles of its founder

So the bulk of the money will presumably go to mostly catholic charities doing such wonderful work opposing condom use in Africa or running orphanages in poor countries.

Wouldn't improve my opinion of the man one bit.

May Roly now RIP.

In some possibly mythical place, Mr Gubay will be sat on his throne, dripping with gold medallions on chains and all that, next to God, just as he wished I suppose.

Then Roly will pop up on the other side of God, and deliver a few choice poems he has been working on this past few years. And as the words roll, the gold adorning Mr Gubay will drip away and turn into heavy steel chains, and God will disappear, leaving the bethroned one to listen to some really super poetry and observations on life the universe and everything from Roly.

For eternity, or perhaps for as long as Roly decides, but certainly for as long as it will take for his captivated audience to wither and shrivel away beneath his burdens.
