Another new Douglas Town Centre Manager

Recommended Posts

You genuinely have to marvel at the achievements of Douglas revitalisation managers over the decades

The DDP and the Corpy have tried to regenerate Douglas more times than Doctor Who.

And look at the state it's been left in after all the previous public sector jackals have fed off its carcass for their own benefit.

That's the point. They have a very large staff count on high salaries, more Councillors than you could shake a stick at and no shortage of resources available yet much of what they are involved with is a total shambles.

Aren't most of our public sector agencies based on that very model?

And on top of that they get an events organiser to arrange the switching on of the Christmas lights.

The events organisers arrange the Tower Of Refuge Walk as well:

Tower of Refuge Walk
These are really the jobs we enjoy being involved in from the inception. The idea was floated by Douglas Development Partnership and they were immediately told health and Safety won’t allow it. Step in EMS. From the start our knowledge, planning and ability to properly risk assess events allowed the event to goa ahead with the support of many different departments of government and also raising money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. From humble beginnings with a few hundred people we now escort over 3000 people access Conister Rock, get up close to the Tower of Refuge and return all within a limited time due to the tidal conditions. A great event that will continue to grow.

The Golgafrinchans have finally taken over.

This might sound like a daft question but where exactly is Douglas Town Centre? I didn't realise Douglas had one.

The patch of mucky gravel behind RBSI House.

So we've got 17 Douglas Councillors, a large number of paid employees at the town hall, a Regeneration Committee, Chris Pycroft, Michelle O'Malley this new guy and an administrator but they still need an events organiser for switching on the Christmas lights and walking out to the Tower of Refuge.

There are no events planned according to their website.

What do we pay all these people for?

Mr Cheshire said: I have watched how the town centre is being revitalised through regeneration and a whole range of events, from craft fairs to the Tower of Refuge walk.

I fail to see how organising a walk at low tide to a rock in the bay could be classed as being any gauge of success for town regeneration.

It depends on who you've got walking out and how long you can keep them there.

Businessman, Oliver Cheshire, has been appointed as the latest Town Centre Manager.

Anyone know what happened to the previous manager,Michelle O'Malley, who was only appointed in 2013?

Michelle O'Malley:

The salary is around the £35k scale.

Why you bothered about Michelle? She has left and gone to work elsewhere.

You seem awful worried about people no longer either being elected or working for the corpy.
