General Calibre of Candidates

Recommended Posts

Think there's one or two MBAs in the Keys as well

Chris Thomas is a financial analyst

PPE from Oxford, plus others -

"Millom School, Cumbria; Balliol College, MA (Oxon) Philosophy, Politics and Economics; Association of International Bond Dealers' Diploma; UK Society of Investment Professionals, financial analysis qualification and continuing education; Glasgow and London Universities, Management Education Teachers Programme and continuing education; Centre for Manx Studies, Postgraduate Certificate, Manx Studies"

Looks like much of his work experience is in academia. And yet he's patronised whenever he speaks by the likes of Geoff Corkish.

Chris Thomas is very much one of our better people as far as MHK's go.

Geoff Corkish comes across as a horrible patronising old hand wringer who's basically "stealing" a salary as an MLC. In fact, he summarises everything that is awful about LegCo.

Corkish typifies exactly what is awful about the Island never mind Legco. He is a glowing reminder of our odious system of patronism and cronyism which much be firmly killed off before the Island can re-build itself as a proper open economy and not some taxpayer funded trough of vested interests in which the same self entitled piggies have been gorging themselves for a generation.

Well said oldmanxfella - I have had the misfortune of meeting the odious pompous arrogant twat at a charity event. If you were to write a list of all the qualities you wouldn't want in a politican, he ticks all the boxes.

Sorry, are you suggesting Corkish needs to be killed to save the island?

Clearly it was a metaphor. I wasn't saying he actually needs be killed. Just that the system and source of his (their) cronyism needs to be killed off.

I see Pam is in the race.

Seems pretty desperate to get elected.

Excerpt form Manx Radio News:

Pat Ayres, who will contest the poll in Ayre and Michael, says if elected on September the 22nd, he’d turn down extra pay for a ministerial or departmental post, refuse to join the Tynwald pension scheme and pay for his own parking.

There will likely be candidates offering to do it for free shortly.

He's unlikely to be offered a ministerial post any time soon. So that's a safe offer to make.

You glean a lot about Pat's grasp of the plot if that is what he seriously believes are the key qualities that would make a candidate electable at this point in time.

It's all populist waffle.
