If the countries that have already allowed a massive influx of so called refugees were able to kick out all the economic migrants, rapists, terrorist sleeper cells, hate preachers, self entitled scrou

There was a demonstration on Douglas Promenade today regarding refugees, the people involved want the Isle of Man to welcome them. What cloud are these people living on, seriously, we have about

Good job we didn't help destabilise Libya, over throw Gadhafi and help create ISIS in the process (thankfully we followed the advice that was available at the time... )

Good job we didn't invade Afghanistan, and Iraq....and then go on to bomb Syria as well

Oh no, wait we did...we are responsible.

So our share would be 25 families it seems. Imagine the overheads, infrastructure, rules, regs etc. and the administration (Govt enployees) involved.

Very costly. Far better to just pay the UK for the upkeep of 25 families in the UK, where economies of scale are far more realistic.

No It's 5 people per year for 5 years totalling 25 people.

Lots of people have volunteered to accommodate and care for them.

Apparently most people have never ever met a refugee.

There was an interesting article in the Guardian which suggested this is the last thing that should be done:

No two countries’ circumstances are the same, and comparing them is not always fair or useful. But if we examine the cost of an individual refugee for each of these countries, we find that a refugee in Germany costs the state about £21,000, while in the US the figure is £17,000 and in Canada it’s £16,000. In Britain, it is expected to be £85,000.

What happens in the UK is that various commercial mega-companies such as G4S are given the contracts the house and look after the refugees while other countries rely on most of the work being done by charities and accommodation being provided by individuals. It's much cheaper and helps the refugees integrate much better, but tends to be less productive in cosy backhanders and board places for retired politicians and civil servants.

Of course it's almost certain that the Island would follow the UK model, but it would be nice to try something different for once.

We should do a deal with Syria. We take 200 of their refugees...they take 200 of our top fuckwits. We'd be £millions up on the deal.

I'd only ask them to take 24.

Liberals are great at tokenism. It's about them feeling good more than anything.

Where as right wingers prefer to ignore the situation and hope someone else sorts it out...

"What do you mean we aided in the creation of IS and the refugee situation with our foolish and short sighted Middle East policies. Someone else should sort it out...we're too busy spending an extra £350 million a week on the NHS"

Do you really think 25 people....5 per year would enjoy living here ? different language, windy, wet weather, no job, miles away from relations and friends. Different customs, expensive ,strange food. I think they would be absolutely miserable. These do gooders do not think things through they want to help which is good but this is not the way to go forward, the only way to help is to make their own countries safe and that I am afraid is a distant dream. Interference caused all these problems every country should be left to sort itself out. There may have been dreadful things going on in these places but it is much worse now I bet all these genuine refugees wish the foreign saviours had stayed away and left them in peace at least they had homes and they were relatively safe if they kept their heads down and obeyed the rulers, now everyone is taking pot shots at them and their countries are destroyed.
