the stinking enigma

which is the most unbiased news source?

Recommended Posts

Stinky, your question shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Daoism. It is simply not possible to even exist let alone report something as complex as "news" without being influenced by Daos.

There is no such thing as an unbiased news source. They all have their own biases and Daos.

A more sensible question might be which is the most consistent news source, acknowledging it will always be subject to a bias/its own particular dao.

FT, BBC, the Economist, PZ Myers, William M Briggs, Google News (which aggregates everything including Haaetz etc), Wall Street Journal, Guardian, Vox News, China Digital Times, China Leadership Monitor, Janes Defense Weekly, Carpe Diem, Greg Mankiw's blog ... That's about it for a weekly gander!

Year on year Auntie Beeb is the most trusted media outlet on the planet.

Of course, all those somewhere to the right of Atilla the Hun always claim it has a left wing bias.

However NO complaint has ever been upheld in that regard.

Funny that....

Unfortunately newspapers, that should be providing coverage, depth, opinion and so forth are these days doing little to build on broadcast media's snippets and soundbites. Well, that's how it appears to me anyway. Even The Independent ended up towing the owner's line during the last election.

Talking of bias the Brexit campaign threw up an illuminating insight into the thinking of newspaper owners:

Beeb, RT, National Secular Society, Fox, Vice, Jihad Watch, France24, Al Jazeera, Guardian, Telegraph, Memritv.

And others in between. They're all biased one way or another.

Why isn't there one that's just straight down the middle?

Because what is news is subjective. Who is interviewed,?the questions that are asked, the counterpoint and analysis of what is being said all require a point of view. Journalists and anthropologists quickly realise they aren't disembodied observers but consciously involved in forming the story the dao.
