Hospice colour event dulled by bill

There is something of a delicious irony to this, that a charity providing what is essentially a public service is emotionally blackmailing the taxpayer's representative. Public services provided by charity, the ultimate right wing utopia.

While I disagree I do believe that a hospice should be provided by the state, not charity.

Erm, so what do you disagree with?

...the state cannot afford the level of care hospice provide. I'm not a big fan of any of these heavy overhead events but I'm a big spoilsport :)

I never said anything about the place itself. I know people who work there, I have donated my own time to the place - it is a brilliant service, first class. The point is purely how you want things to be funded. The statement "the state cannot afford" is an absurdity, because you are in essence saying that all of society cannot afford it, so only those who can be emotionally blackmailed will have to pay. It's not that you are a spoil sport, it's probably that you are at heart a socialist, and this is the anthesis of socialism.

Maybe they are trying to recoup the costs of the English registered chewing gum removal van I saw this morning on Athol Street, busy with a large machine steaming the pavement.

I thought they'd already wasted £100k on buying one of their own machines?

the removed darker block paving had chewy all over it for years without not much getting done about or it even being very noticeable , the new stuff needs it removed on a constant basis cos it sticks out big time and looks shit.

So you put it under state control and finish up spending more on an army of pen pushers and managers than you do on care, just like everything else the state does. Just let them get on with it in the brilliant way they do.

Ah yes, the ultimate get out... that's why it's so brilliant. You can't criticise charitable giving can you!? Don't stop to ask why, just keep tightening the emotional thumb screws on the poor sods who we know will pick up the bill, flash up a little "call now..." icon on the screen just as they get to the point where they tell you how their loved one died... That's the spirit! Well played, well played. As you were...
