A Special Place to Live and Work. Discuss

A special place to live and work. It is, of course it is, but when I hear such words I am reminded of the chap who was appointed Governor of the Isle of Man but fortunately it was sometime before his swearing in, that it was discovered his wife wouldn't come to the Island, so they quickly managed to find a replacement candidate for Governor.

One consolation maybe, is that the Home Office fucked him off after that and after a long distinguished career he spent the rest of his days in the garden or similar. Ah well.

I sometimes sympathise with the lass but perhaps she should have stuck it out. I sometimes wonder what/who it was that turned her off.

There was certainly no Manx Forums in those days to 'get a feel' for the place.

Any bunch of idiots can brainstorm a wish-list.

It would have been far better if they prioritised and produced a much much smaller list consisting of:

We are going to do this because....

It is a priority because of....

We are going to fix it by doing this....

It will be done by DD/MM/YY

Dream on....

PK is correct in that such concrete policy declarations normally form a programme for government

The 'flexible, open PFG' is an Isle of Man creation worthy of Tinkerbell himself

Sorry but the only drug I do is beer.

Come on. They've produced a very comprehensive list of "nice to have" and I'm forced to the conclusion that it's just marketing collaterals to try and tempt business / professionals over to prop up the burgeoning PSPA liability.

The brief was clearly to encapsulate all the current ills afflicting Mannin in such a way as to give the impression that a "progressive" government was going to deal with them.

The irony being, of course, that the more "nice to haves" they dreamt up merely put into sharp relief just how useless their governance has been over recent years which has let the place slide downwards into the mess it is now.

People want solutions not platitudes you idiots. Why don't you actually try to make a positive difference? You know, just to make change...

It was on the MR politics programme on Sunday. Apropos to the thread, I would have thought.

Thanks Gladys. What I'm getting at is what appears to be ongoing excuses (inc Meat Plant discussed on same programme) to keep these facilities in the remit of Govt. despite the ongoing huge losses.

Of course they will want to keep all these things in government remit, jobs and pensions depend upon justifying the bloat !

Not really.

The problem with the meat plant is that you cannot privatise it without changing the laws around meat exportation for slaughter and the import of none manx produced meats.

No private enterprise can run a profitable business under the current rules. It's impossible.

The real outcry here should actually be at farmers who get subsidised by the tax payer to not use the subsidised by the tax payer meat plant. How the fuck is that ever going to work?

It's murky depending on the arrangements in place.

It's about time there was a farmsubsidy.org.im

farmsubsidy.org

Watch the video for some history and excellent information on this subject. And download a spreadsheet of all recipients

Fields of gold. Aye, about damned right.
