notwell
Indeed, the LegCo issue will be the test of the resolve of this House of KeysWell we all know the answer. The litmus test will be if some tosser like Gawne gets a leg up next time round having been consigned to the dustbin by the voting public. Let us hope it never happens. Donald Trumps would be ripping the head off it . Edited January 12, 2017 by notwell
Donald Trumps
Mr Gawne has already stated that he is opposed to LegCo & won't be standing for it The only thing I'd rip the head off is notwell ps I hope Peter Karran does stand for LegCo

Lisenchuk
I believe that we do need some sort of scrutiny of legislation by competent individuals who have not been involved in the process of drawing it up. There's your problem - too often we have alcoholics and dickheads. Yup the one guy who could have added value didn't even get a look in ! There were 2 who had very relevant background experience. Don't forget Paul Beckett stood as well. Beckett would be really useful to us now that brexit throws some of our rights and liberties into the air.
gettafa
We need politicians who have a breadth of knowledge and experience of all walks of life. The lad Becket may well be au fait with the desires and needs of his fellow millionaires, but mix that with a few tats and brushing shoulders with crims doesn't necessarily make for a balanced view of our community. Lisenchuk
I seem to remember several of this administration recently saying it wouldn't be more of the same. http://147-5433bc3297b05.radiocms.com/news/isle-of-man-news/quayle-aims-to-build-on-predecessors-legacy/

asitis
Well as Bell did precisely eff all except keep his head down and not upset the bloat, I despair when Quayle says its much of the same ! When will they embrace the concept of not wasting money, ditching enterprises Government shouldn't be involved in which lose money, and getting back to governmental basics ! Cutting Government expenditure should be relatively easy by unravelling years of mismanagement at a stroke, this is how the private sector has to work as it cannot just increase the amount of money it stealth taxes from its customers ! Supporting the IOM Government is a bit like having teenage children where someone once said to my wife and I expect nothing then you will not be disappointed !
Lost Login
Lets wait to see what the budget brings in as I would hope to a subtle shift in direction although I do not expect to see any huge changes. The last Govt I never thought had any intention but to keep kicking the can down the road but I think that this Govt is different although I don't expect any changes will be as quick or as dramatic as many of us might want. I also appreciate they do have a delicate balancing act in that there is probably some pretty drastic action that needs to be taken but also they need to maintain confidence in the Island to attract businesses and people to the IoM. It is on that basis I view the Chief Ministers remarks which prompted this thread. Is he saying what he truly believes and thinks or is it a case of trying sell and promote the Island. Whether we like it or not Government cannot go around publicly saying things that reduce confidence in the Island so I view much of what they say as little more than advertising and PR puff to the outside world as if the Govt is not prepared to publically "sell" the Island who is. It does not mean that privately they have concerns and reservations but if Govt went around saying "come to the Island where there is a poor quality of life, nowt to do for the kids...." there would be apoplexy
Donald Trumps
I'd have thought it would instil a great deal of confidence in the Isle of Man if we had a government that saw exactly what needed to be done to get us back on the fiscal straight & narrow, and actually got on & did it Make Robertshaw acting CM until LegCo is reformed & we can have new a CM election

Albert Tatlock
The reality is there is little choice now other than to cut costs. Plus we have a health crisis, and are rapidly heading onto an education crisis to follow.
