It's not unviable if you are prepared to put yourself out, but you do need to put yourself out in business here. If you are a chain though, why would you come to a very small population in a different jurisdiction with its own laws and higher costs? Easier to just open in another town in the UK.

 

I appreciate that some have done it and probably did well in the good times. Must be marginal for a lot of them now. It needs to be relatively high margin with a usp, like McDonalds for instance. Small margin won't work as evidenced by Poundland who need a 20% uplift to square it.

The Island has previously performed to a model which makes it a risk worth taking. It may well be that our current position makes that a bigger risk than in the past but a long term view could be that that a risk is worth it in view of the entry price of a start up price?

To be fair, B&Q, PC World, M&S, Tesco, Dealz, Boots etc all seem busier than their similar sized stores in the UK

Not to throw more petrol on the fire but there is skeet on the street about a Screwfix [not a dating service] opening an outlet to the rear of B&Q.

 

This was supposed to be happening 2 or 3 years ago, not heard a peep since.

like Halfords and Radisson Hotel :lol:
