There is no national strategy for dealing with old buildings...they seem to want to keep anything that is 100+ years old and pay through the nose to keep them empty and maintained.

All these buildings should be in a plan...even offering free rent to businesses who will have to go through all kinds of planning pain and rules and regs just to put up a simple partition wall.

Time to admit we can't and shouldn't keep everything. Buildings were originally designed for a purpose...and if that purpose is now defunct...time for a rethink of priorities...and not this wishy washy approach taken by numerous disparate council/commisioners decision makers.

Obviously if the building is the heart of the community then an exception can be made.

pie factory.......

A Ramsey branch of "The Pie Maker".  Now there's an idea.

(Famous Edinburgh pie shop)

Or it could be a branch of BRGR (Edinburgh burger bar)

Or even a Subway sandwich shop so people could get better value than a limp Costa toastie with a thin scraping of generic sandwich filling.

Not yet. But if it does that will be 36 takeaways or eateries in the town.

Ah, that's why they all wear jogging bottoms and fleeces.

Private Business A wants to purchase The Courthouse for £475k.

Ramsey residents complain.

Even if Private Business A could buy the building they probably wouldn’t want to now because of bad publicity. And Ramsey residents would boycott it, even if it was a really nice facility.

RTC end up purchasing the building and are now having to spend money to renovate it.

Private Business A will probably now rent the building at a fraction of what they would have spent to buy and renovate it.

Ramsey residents are now paying higher rates for the upkeep of a building that could have been in private ownership.

Spot on.

I'm currently mostly annoyed of the prospect of having to spend £30m in Liverpool on something we don't really need

That makes it even worse. A vocal minority have kicked up a fuss without even knowing who was going to buy it and what their plans were going to be for the building.

No, but I saw a flyover the fish counter once.
