The Conservative Party are made up of such as former barristers and the rich upper class. They're gonna love the hicks from the Isle of Man. The visit will do us all the world of good.

Total crap. My local party members are not in the above categories.

It was a generalisation. A bit stereotype maybe but, hey, ya surely get the drift.

But to be fair, the 300+ Tory MPs declared over £4million in outside Parliament  cash payments - directorships etc, which on average is not much. Howard can beat them hands down.

Let 'em know just how much wonga he has and he should be just fine rubbing shoulders.

They could do with Big Howard to make up the numbers - he'll occupy at least three of the empty seats

"Oh, so you're doing really well you say Howard? Well, we're over one and a half trillion in debt. How much did you say you had in reserves?"

and erm,. exactly how did the Isle of Man get all that money.

eta,  mainly for GD4ELI:

Alberto Costa MP, shown above having a relaxed and amiable chat with Howard, was a solicitor and worked in the Treasury Solicitor's Department

Nobody else is going stand up for the IoM and try and influence those in Govt etc in the UK  so whilst attending might not achieve much it would be wrong not to try as that would ensure the IoM's opinions and requirements were never given a moments thought.

I also expect that the same people who criticise the Govt going and trying to engage people at these conference would be the same ones moaning that Govt was doing nothing to try and get the IoM position out there if they did not attend.

A sensible post Lost Login.

However, I remember the rather bizarre showing-off piss-up they had down at the Mansion House and some of the repulsive hanger/s on that went with them. You only have to see the seating arrangement/guest list to see that that the outcome of that was always going to be not too good. The rich hicks were in town.

OK, we're in different days, but still, if no one is pissing on your chips don't piss on them yourself.

The States of Jersey actually paid for a fully manned stand there which had the CM and 5 other politicians on there handing out brochures and selling the jusdiction to any conservative that was there. I'd actually say that might have a been a better and more active strategy.

Howard is putting on his "Your Nation Needs You Hat" and is trying to persuade some butt lickers that the IOM is the best place to come to work, have a great lifestyle, and get loads of cash without strings. As long as Quayle has your  unwavering support the cash just keeps coming. Otherwise, you are on the Robershaw Bench. They will do everything to get rid of a truth talker up to giving you, on expenses, concrete wellies for Xmas.

Guys get real eh! We have NO INFLUENCE in Westminster, no friends. We are just a fly around their lightbulb, that's why they took all the VAT money knowing the consequences.
