It seems to me that the Government have given grant money, and given the lowest possible rate of VAT . In the year when there was no TT they paid compensation to hoteliers to such an extent that many hotels , allegedly, made more profit that year than in a normal year..You seem to be very supportive of Air BB  which has to be a huge threat to conventional hotels and then blame the government as being a menace to the hospitality business . Personally I have found moaning hoteliers with outdated ideas to be the biggest threat to the  hospitality trade .

Perhaps the government should increase the VAT to 20%, the same as most other service industries  and let the good businesses survive at the expense of the mediocre.

That's an argument for giant bed factory hotels & no local authenticity at all

Yes, I think AirBnB is a massive innovation in hospitality and yes Dept of Tourism should have extended the home stay scheme years ago as advised

IOM Government is a menace generally & to small businesses in particular

I believe AirBnB expands the tourism market

& an open home stay product would do the same

I don't think it floods regularly. It may suffer slightly as does the rest of the prom when the tides are higher than usual

OK maybe ‘flood’ was a tad too harsh, but the road that end gets splashed regularly and is far wetter than further along.

Not at all

It's a place to avoid

Just surprised there is enough commercial activity in Ramsey to give the new hotel as much support as it appears to be getting - perhaps it's something to do with race horses or pier builders

The Park Hotel has done incredibly well since it opened. TBH, the restaurant was  a bit shite to start with (I had a couple of sorry experiences in there) but now it's got its act together.

As regards the accommodation it's clean, it's well presented and it's AVAILABLE (Last time I stayed at a "leading" Douglas seafront operation 18 months ago I was offered a room that resembled a broom cupboard and the "other half" walked out).

As a consequence the Park Hotel is well patronised, including by the supercar lot. And the fact that they're extending it to the degree that they are is surely testimony to its success?

Isn't it new banqueting space they're building?

Nowhere near as profitable as selling bedrooms

Anyway, I wish them every success
