heard a rumour that the new radar has now after many years been certified,   if this is the case, why is the old one still spinning??

The technology on the new radar is now out of date.

Its a commercial radar for picking up commercial air traffic, not stealth bombers.

The technology is perfectly adequate for the job of a rinky-dink "domestic" runway.

The new one now needs replacing, as it is now 10 years old,  queue "Mrs renolds press release" ( the radar needs replacing IRO £ 9,000.000m or we will be blacklisted ).
