More shootings in the U.S.

Talking of oafs, the "OotUS" has said that teachers should be armed in schools.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-43149694

"If you had a teacher who was adept at firearms," he said, "they could very well end the attack very quickly."

"Where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them," he said, while acknowledging the plan was controversial, "they would go for special training and they would be there, and you would no longer have a gun-free zone."

Quick list of reasons why this wouldn't work:

  • Teachers want to be teachers and educators, not cops and soldiers
  • To be an effective and capable close quarters shooter (certainly in a hectic location such as a school) takes a lot of time and training
  • If you haven't got money for well paid teachers and enough text books, you haven't got money for guns
  • Other measures that have been proposed are perimeter walls, metal detectors, armed guards and now armed teachers.  That is a fucking prison, not a school.
  • Arming teachers just mean there are more firearms around, increasing the chances of misfires, mishandling, lost firearms, etc

If the NRA pushed any harder into that flesh puppet you'll be able to see their finger tips between his teeth.

Going back to my school days the only teachers capable of handling a gun were highly potential spree killers themselves on a good day. And the more drippy teachers would probably turn the gun on themselves

Just imagine Mr Clarke the old music teacher at St Ninians with a gun. A chalk duster to the head was bad enough.

Wasn't that Steve Cooil? He opened a 2inch cut on my mates eyebrow which required 8 stitches by throwing a board duster at him. Nowt happened to him. His record of violence towards pupils, male and female, was horrendous. I've been following that case of that local teacher, Cooper, on trial for cruelty in the UK. Not much in that case that didn't happen with a couple of total bastards over here. Dave Ingham was another.

teachers are to busy with classes about depression, trans, gays and anxiety to have time to train how to use a gun......

Was that the same Dave Ingham that used to coach rugby?

Now he says the cop on duty was a coward.

But wait... the WH refused to release the photos of Pres Bonespurs photo of him repealing the Obama bill that stopped mentally ill people buying guns.

I feel terrible for the guard. He had a handgun. Probably a 9mm (guess). He was out ranged by about 350 yards.  In this context, a 5.65 NATO round has a flat trajectory out to about 200m. It goes subsonic at about 150m, and it’s ballistic properties change. But basically, it’s point and shoot. It’s designed for killing people at medium ranges. Low recoil etc, it is designed for killing people on the battlefield. Aim to 50 yards... shoot.. aim 200 yards, shoot, kill. 100 yards, aim...shoot kill.

It is a cartridge designed to kill, wound, and maim humans.

Its useless as a hunting round.

But the NRA and the gun nuts call it a “sporting rifle”.

No problem with keeping the Remminton .223.... Bolt action. Ideal for hunting rabbits apparently. It’s just a souped up point 22LR.

As a wee addition to thoughts here. This week I have been reading American fishing forums. Carp fishing in particular. They fish for them with bows. And they celebrate the death and destruction of these fantastic creatures with their 80lb compound bows

Americans are strange.

Not really Al. There's a considerable difference between the two rounds. The .223 is about 70mm whilst the .22lr is approx 30mm. That's a lot of powder, slightly more than souped-up. Using the .223 on rabbit wouldn't leave much for dinner.
