Is someone running a business from their home up in Fairway Close in Onchan. The  noise of hammering, drilling and just about every other tool noise under the sun has been going on since 10 this Sunday morning. It's now 2:35 pm and after a night shift, it's just not on.

What are the bylaws on this. Going on for MONTHS, just much noisier today. Most unfair

I would recommend contacting "Environmental Health.

I'm a bit out of date but the UK rules for carrying out building work were 08.30 , mon-fri , 0830-1230 sat, no work on sun.

Running a business from domestic accommodation  would require planning permission (good luck with that one ) .

Should you get an EHO/ Planning officer to witness the noise and they are dragging their feet you can apply to the courts fora"nuisance order" or go for an injunction  and sapoena (sp?) them as witnesses:D........... worked for a mate of mine on the 'adjacent island':flowers:

Most of those rules apply to commercial construction. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone who works all week, maybe even on Saturday, to be allowed to do home improvement and DIY projects on a Sunday? They've waited until 10am to start so they probably already think they're being considerate to their neighbours.  You're only affected badly because you're on a night shift work pattern. I'm not sure what your neighbour is supposed to do, I'm pretty sure he's going to get more complaints if he starts his work at 8pm on a Sunday to suit you.

If it's been going on for MONTHS and you've not bothered to go round and talk to him after all that time, then that's more on you than them. Do that before you start to get all heavy handed with councils and bye laws.

Or just pop round and give him a slap with a bit of 4 by 2. It is the Manx way.
