Separately a smart hotel in a lovely spot next to a popular golf club and close to the airport doesn’t seem like a stupid idea TBH. Could be the sort of place which might appeal to tha sort of people who like golf.

With you on this one Pongo. Sort of place I would like to stay at when I visit.

They're business hotels for which demand on the island is actually decreasing significantly I believe

Our largely heritage based tourism market seeks authentic, affordable & largely family friendly accommodation options

Premier inn couldn' be more family friendly, they are great for families

What dispute, specifically?

Not sure which one Gizo was referring to - but the whole area / site is a strange one. The road in is all sand based and previous developments were hindered by the fact the road cannot support the heavy plant required to access. Previous proposals  looked into options of coming in from the lighthouse side however there is some protected species of insect which prevented this progressing - don't hold your breath on this one

My arse this will happen. Firstly the dispute with Vermuellen then if it ever gets off the ground, as the first spade is being dug in expect a revised planning application being requested. As the hotel will not be viable and only alternative is a block of flats. Planning approved.

In the same vein as 'Remember South Ramsey', remember Mount Murray...

I can visualise the investment Board for Premier Inn, "shit guys I've just read expert opinion on Manx Forums. Seems our specialists who do this stuff day in day out are wrong. It's not too late to pull out of the Isle of Man development is it? "

Who said it was a wrong deal for Premier Inn?

It’s partly because of some of those sorts of places that the tourism industry hasn’t developed as well as it could. Though some of the Airbnb places look very good. Nobody cares about choo choos and trams. And only an increasingly elderly population of bikers care about petrol motorbikes.

I certainly believe that there is also a small market for a quality modern version of what you are describing. Price is not especially an issue if the thing is worth doing. Working in London I would have loved a weekend tramping around in the rain on the hills and getting some fresh air. With everything provided. Followed by a roaring fire and amazing food and drink. Everything laid on and no Royston Vasey weirdness. Countryside, fresh air, food and atmosphere.

Separately a smart hotel in a lovely spot next to a popular golf club and close to the airport doesn’t seem like a stupid idea TBH. Could be the sort of place which might appeal to tha sort of people who like golf.

Very possibly, but is it likely they'll receive planning permission for both a hotel and luxury apartments?
