Could anyone tell me if a Police presence was required at the scene why were they in a Course Inspection car and not in a Constabulary vehicle?

Absolutely valid question, and did any marshal or spectator try to warn driver,  but speed factored in inability to assess. did driver or police have police radio fitted to the car.

Surprisingly the geezer Rob Callister is very quiet on the topic considering he is paid extra salary to represent public interest in the Department that manages TT. Aside from the incident, he hasn’t uttered a word or ensured procedures are adequate.

Is there any mention of him investigating in his ‘open and transparency’ rants?  Or the MLC David Cretney the self appointment Minister of Fun, although that may be his advertising phrase to market his DJ  work.  What Department does Cretney get paid to represent?

Forgot Cretney was on a payroll still

Why have more vehicles on the course than are really necessary? The course inspection officer would have needed to be there to pass the road as safe if practice was to continue anyway, so doubling up would make sense?

Racing along in a Boggo 1.4 Focus panda car doesn't have the same allure as a Honda type R.

That is the standard operating procedure.

Who authorised that procedure?

Whoever signed off the Operational Order. Superintendent in charge of the policing operation for TT I'd imagine these days.

Would it not figure that Superintendent would now change that procedure to reflect a police officer driving the car instead of some non police affiliated driver.

Would it really make a difference? Car heading one way, bikes other, on 'closed' roads.  If the supposed 'limit' on the car was 90, and it hits a bike, sorry, the bike(r) is getting hurt.  Suggestions that the car was supposedly doing over 100mph (how do witnesses know - can they tell the difference between 90mph and 100mph, without speed cameras?), with a 'non police' driver, result is still the same - bike(r) is getting hurt.

I'm not excusing anything here, but finger pointing/willy waving (delete as appropriate), by people who are unaware of the facts (as they HAVEN'T seen the report) is pointless.

Further, tbf, Derek has provided some interesting insight, that few, if any of us are aware of regarding the logistics involved in responding to such an incident, which for one, I value.  I would also suggest that Derek has done very well to resist replying in kind to your multiple, unjustified jabs - fortunately, restraint has never been my strong suite, so I will say what everyone else is thinking - Buncha - you have a clear agenda, and you are acting like a cunt.

Fact is that the car was proceeding in the correct direction, the bikes were not. Somebody fucked up big time in telling the riders to go back anti clockwise.

That is all

It does not matter one jot whether the car was doing 30 mph or 130 mph, it was proceeding in the right direction. That is all that comes into play.

Pick the bones out of it.

This being my point.  The car was responding to an incident, under instruction.  Who was behind the wheel, doesn't make a difference to the end result.

It has been mentioned before (here or some other forum) Racers are told pre race to wait for an escorting vehicle before returning to the Grandstand.
