That's the spirit - marvellous news that the ACU have decided that they have the final word in their own enquiry and private report into an incident caused by their employee and others under their control and the same untouchable fuckwits can run it all again in six weeks NOTHING TO SEE HERE BUT A LUMPY CARPET.

Struggling to uncurl my toes.

No head rolling. The only surprise is that Thompson hasn’t been promoted.

Browsing the tourist trinket shops this evening, there were some, obviously TT aimed fridge magnets etc but not with the TT logo, rather chequered flags and a Three Legs logo!!

Obviously a way around the licensing issue???

Get out of that Laurence!

The bizarre thing is there already is one.

i also don’t understand how an investigation into safety issues can be withheld as it is “business sensitive”. That is like saying the outcome of the recent spate of Boeing crashes will be kept under wraps as it might give competitors the edge.

there will be much wider event safety learning available from careful analysis of this incident. This is clearly not going to happen though.

'The appointment of an Event Safety Officer.'

lol

That is going to be such an easy job interview.

is it safe? No.

Can it be made safer? Yes, but it would be shit.

So my job is to be fired if there is a problem? Yes!

The event has been running 120 years strange they have only thought of that now? Maybe this is why so many people have died over the years? All fixed in one appointment!

Am I right in thinking that Gary Thompson previously filled both roles as COC and Event Safety Officer? In which case they've decided that it was incompatible, conflicted or simply too much and have now separated the responsibilities.

A few years ago Geoff Cannell carried out the combined roles of Chief Commentator and TT Press Officer IIRC which was duly deemed inappropriate and the duties were separated.

That's how they normally buy people's silence; by promotion, pay rises and the big lock-in pension. Keeps everything in house and inside the circle of trust. That's why you rarely even hear a mouse squeak on the Island; it's worse than the Vatican.

"A marshal told us to turn around and head back the other way. You do what the marshals tell you".

Steve Mercer, interview on iomtoday, 05 04 19.

So, piecing together the recommendations, we can probably work backwards to some of what the Report says, and conclude that there were multiple failures and issues identified, including:-

Poor/confused/ambiguous communications from Race Control, in the immediate aftermath of Dan Kneen's sad accident, some of which went out over Radio TT, and was therefore heard by thousands of people, including course marshals.

A marshal at the point where Mercer (and others stopped) gave an instruction for the riders at their location, to ride backwards along the course, which he was not properly authorised to do. He may have based his decision solely on what he had heard on Radio TT.

Some riders, probably including Mercer, had not read the regulations properly, or been briefed adequately, on what to do in the event of a Red Flag situation, and the aftermath, and so accepted the marshal's incorrect instruction, without question, or checking.

The course inspection car was being driven far too fast for the circumstances.

Not sure about the course car going too fast. I can’t see how that is viewed. Not do I see much point in roof lights.
