Electric cars will not happen. There is far too little lithium in the world to produce the batteries. Like ultra HD, it is over before it has started. What will happen is restrictions on the number of cars or bikes you can have, or the amount of fuel you can buy.

I think that though oil rich / oil self sufficient countries might be okay , the greatest growth will be in places like China which has to import oil.

The Middle east /US nexus is holding the world to ransom by controlling the Oil and USD .

China is aggressively pushing electric cars. More than half of all electric cars sold are in China..

I don't think electric cars will go away anytime soon.

Despite all the obvious challenges and drawbacks, most of the major manufacturers are fully committed to autonomous electric vehicles. Another dumbing down of the population, we won't need to think for ourselves shortly, there will be some machine doing that for you!

..........well I've lived through the golden years and I'm glad I will be dead before the world completely loses it's head, although it will be a close thing the way total idiocy appears to be an accelerating trend.......

Electric cars will form a major part of vehicles in the future, as technological progress is made, the result will be much cheaper vehicles, fantastic range and extremely quick charging without massive Kw charge points. Autonomous cars I'm not so sure about as I believe there'll be a backlash by humanity to stop it, yes we like machines doing things for us but there's a tipping point where we humans realise that we want to remain in control despite the premise of a perfect utopia of machines controlling everything. I also believe that internal combustion engine has a future, technology will advance so much that ICE vehicles will produce zero or close to zero emissions and give a huge range per litre. I also believe that extremely stable and safe mini-nuclear power units will be produced and used in vehicles, once the issue of waste disposal is sorted. I am ever hopeful that some bright spark will produce an engine/motor/power unit that runs on piss (somehow use the ammonia in piss to produce energy somehow) but that may just be wishful thinking on my part.

Well you wish is partially met, synthetic piss is basically what adblue is for diesels.

As stated previously, petrol & diesel (oil) will still play a significant part in future transport.

There are a variety of chemical and compounds that can be used in batteries such as cobalt, plus there will be compounds that will be used in future battery tech that have not yet been discovered or invented.

Australia to prolong their use of coal as a source of energy.

Without giving any indication of how long they intend to prolong.
