gettafa 6,542
So could someone just er, clarify what the reason is for the £10k over and above the £50k plus expenses? Well actuaklly, first of all, explain what the £50k plus expenses is, then explain the £10k bonus. There, said it.
hissingsid 3,675
Legco will never be disbanded because they would have a vote on it so.........never, sad really when a load of publically unelected amateurs are getting paid to scrutinise, when Jersey just send the proposed bill to a lawyer when needed.

Reward for the gravity needed for the role for the good governance of the Island and the carrying of the concerns of the populace. 1 1

I believe there is a suggestion - a jolly good one in my tarred & feathered book - that LegCo becomes a scrutinising committee of Tynwald & not a chamber, as they are not democratically elected
hissingsid 3,675
Donald that is what they are supposed to do...scrutinise, unfortunately there are so many committees looking into sweet FA they are needed to make the numbers up, it is something that has been gradually introduced over the years and now when there seems to be an enquiry over gulls and goats (sorry they shot them) looming there will be even more committees. Important stuff like pensions, new berths for boats etc will just have to wait......
gettafa 6,542
Historically the role of Legislative Council has been to Advise, Revise, Scrutinise. This last election they have just got five warm bodies and thrown them in there, with bags of cash to shut them up, not that I think any of them are capable of doing anything else anyway. And the all women thing, is just to make the Tynwald bunfights a little more interesting. Other than that it really didn't matter who was 'elected'.

Donald Trumps 5,536
Juan Kelly has pointed out on his blog that Mrs Jane Poole-Wilson - whilst not one of the newly elected LegCo members - has taken up government appointments but not government positions, & has not taken any cash uplift It is only right that this is repeated here http://www.democracyisleofman.com/blog/jane-poole-wilson-mlc Edited April 7, 2018 by Donald Trumps

Kopek 2,173
I may be wrong on this but don't statutory board chairs and members get an ' uplift ' on their basic 41k ? Chaiman 40% !
Donald Trumps 5,536
Does Tynwald provide 'value for money'? Perhaps with new technology it could be replaced by an online peoples parliament....
