Shopshite Chester Street

Recommended Posts

It feels a bit like Shoprite getting upset because it wasn't a commercial success. Whilst only a personal opinion, it has always felt like they have used it as a placeholder. Closing the cafe hasn't helped the alcove area as the thoroughfare has just become a shelter. The countless rebranding exercises and somewhat disorganised interior can't have helped IMO.

Lots of low cost supermarkets don't have parking in the UK, perhaps catering to their demographic (Fulton's, Heron, and often Aldi and Lidl).

Who actually runs it, is it DOI or DBC? It was all redecorated a couple of years back when one or the other took it over?

The Isle of Man is a special place

Tactics are obvious

1. Prom plans are shit but they’re hellbent on doing it as civil servants can’t admit they’re shit

2. Too much parking is being taken out because they’re basically idiots

3. They can’t admit they’re idiots

4. So now Chester Street will be bought and dropped to accommodate parking that doesn’t need to come out on the Prom

5. So prom plans at £25M become now become £40M project when cost of building new car park is factored in

And we wonder why this place is totally fucked

I’d like to see the building out to tender with a caveat that large supermarkets that already have a presence on the Island are barred and that the area at the front of the store is developed.

I’ve tried to avoid Shoprite ever since they opened a second (rarely used) store in Port Erin purely to prevent the Co-Op from gaining larger premises in the village.

Aldi would be awesome and a real boon for the whole Island; I’d happily pay to park in Chester Street to use one as the savings would make up for it.

For a moment there I thought that said speculum.com - which may actually have been more accurate.

The real Sheldon would never mis-read a word, you are not him!

Anyway, speculum would stretch Sheldons' sheltered vocabulary.

You missed out the iffy moon landings and the world looking flat on the middle level of the car park.

Shoprite have wanted to get out of the Lease on the Chester Street Store for years, it was just a money pit and was a hole they had no idea how to fill.

Horses mouth tells me that they haven't had a lease for nearly 5 years and has just been rolled over by Government .

sound familiar ??!!!! Many meetings even involving a property management firm from across to address the issues .

sound familiar !!??? so the 24 lawyers in AG's office can't draw an up to date contract up and deal with problems with the building

in 5 years ! Many complaints made re needles from druggies left lying no and leaks and the continued smell of piss.

all ignored by our leaders . Sound familiar !! Yes ..you so can  believe this sadly and we should be saying there's no credibility

in the story... But I'm assured it's all true

Obviously, should be a pop-in luxury items store solely for government high earners who park their limos there during a brief working day - Vuitton, Aramarni, Hermes, Cartier, that sort of thing

Missing a trick Shoprite

Browse online on your government computer between 10am & 4pm

Pick up your items from our luxury Chester Street pop-in depot!

Sadly, that is just what puts me off the whole area. I associate the supermarket with the smell of piss on the stairwell and in the lift. That should really be one of the easiest things to sort out?

Owned by government DOI and run by Douglas Borough Corporation.
