IoM Examiner today. P2. Further £13M rise in the cost of the new Liverpool Half Tide dock.

It’s a further £7m. They’ve been working on £30m for last 12 months.. it’s a cumulative £12m since the plan was first mooted in 2015

It happens time and time again of course.

Isle of Man Government should get a reasonably intelligent man in a pub to do their estimates then employ a school leaver to double the figure.

The figures will end up pretty accurate.

Thank God it's only 7 million. Nearly had me worried there for a moment!

Apologies John, I hadn't picked up on that.

Whats 7m between friends !

Small change to Peel Ports. But, you know, "Every little Counts". Especially when it's as easily parted with as it is with IoMG.

My money's on £100M in the end.

My money’s on we’ll never know, and unable to find out as it is too sensitive.

Phil Gawne and Ann Reynolds need to be forming part of the foundations.

Peel Ports were supposed to be paying originally. After the Steamy stumped up for the repairs to Peel's landing stage in order to extend its life.

Then it was a £15M contribution from PP..

Now it's a £38M cost to the Manx taxpayer.

I almost pity the poor IOMG civil servants who have to go into negotiations with Peel Group.  Eat them up and spit the bones out comes to mind.

Then all the English contractors who will build the terminal.

We'll get shafted.

Why spend £37mil for a terminal that cannot be used at night and cannot take freight. or at least not much freight

Save the money and use Birkenhead on a Saturday and Sunday with the Ben and Monday to Friday Holyhead with the Manannan.  only berthing fees to pay then the poor old Manx tax payer can pay off some of the SPC's dept. with the saving. By the time the first spade goes in the cost will have gone up another £7 mil and then the unforeseen extras that will have been missed in the first costing.

Another £37M spent to service our dying tourism industry is just insanity. We have no strategy for anything. The numbers keep on going down and down in inverse proportion to the millions the geniuses in our government are pumping in to stuff. We don’t have a plan for anything other than to spend more millions in the blind hope that just by spending millions something positive must come out at the other end.

Who wants to go to Holyhead?

It ( the building cost rise ) has nothing to do with Peel Ports. We’ve got the lease of the land. It’s the development building and infrastructure costs that have increased, and, as far as I’m aware, Peel aren’t building.

The costing would have been a QS estimate up until now. Put out to tender. They've now got the tender prices.

But...but...but... the boat's always gone to Liverpool, yessir.

Add to that, over the last two decades especially, those running the Island have had this devout belief that if you hang about with very rich people, then some of it will magically rub off on you and the rich must know what they are doing[1].  Which rather ignores how they got rich in the first place.

[1]  There's a wonderfully revealing remark in the report on the MEA,.  An unnamed politician (it sounds like Downie) at the time is asked whether the MEA Board are keeping close enough control on Proffitt and his spending.  "But some of these fellas are millionaires" is the reply.
